The END2 reviews planned intraoperative procedures and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history. END2 monitors neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure communicating with the surgeon, neurophysiologist, anesthesia team, and nursing staff.

Function/Duties of Position

  1. Patient Preparation. Documents a comprehensive patient history including neurological symptoms and medications. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner and with appropriate impedance and may use multiple electrode application techniques. Observes, records and attempts to eliminate outside disturbances that may create artifact.
  2. EEG, EP, and IOM Examinations. Reviews planned intraoperative procedure and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested; positions monitoring equipment in the operating room to ensure patient electrical safety and communicates with team members including anesthesia, surgeon, and nursing staff according to facility policy and procedures; provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedure; cleans/disinfects electrodes and equipment according to facility policy and procedures; restocks equipment and electrode supplies; prints needed documents including waveforms, neuromonitoring specialist report, and surgery log to be dictated by interpreting personnel according to facility policy and procedures; charges and logs patient according to facility policy and procedures.
  3. Equipment Maintenance. Maintains clean testing equipment, maintains proper sanitization of supplies and surrounding area, and reports equipment malfunctions in writing to the engineer.
  4. Miscellaneous. Communicates with Lead technologist and/or with IOM Manager on a daily basis regarding problems with equipment and general workflow related to patient care and service excellence. Provides communication to surgeon’s, anesthesiologists and other operating room personnel/new clinicians, students, fellows and trainees.
  5. Customer Satisfaction. Follows AIDET customer service philosophy. Understands AIDET and how to correct the most common customer service complaints. Follows Press Ganey scores and helps the department to achieve the highest level scores possible by working to become a leader in customer service.

Required Qualifications

  1. BLS certification; High school diploma or equivalent
  2. One year of experience in the performance of procedures in a patient care environment
  3. BLS certification
  4. Certification in one of the following:
    • EEG/Electroencephalography: R. EEG T. 
    • EP/Evoked Potentials: R. T. 
    • NCS/Nerve Conduction Studies: R.NCS.T.
  5. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

BS or Master’s degree in an allied health education program with the completion of an END program.
