Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to study the role of genetic variation in response to environmental stressors in human health and disease. This research program will complement the Institute's basic, applied, and translational researchers and their mission to promote the health, and prevent disease and disability among working Oregonians and their families throughout their lifespan.

Function/Duties of Position

The successful candidate will lead an experimental research program that primarily leverages model organisms (e.g., population reference mouse, fly or worm recombinant inbred panels) to explore the role of genetic variation in disease; candidates that combine this strategy with analysis of human cohorts would be particularly attractive. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Somatic (nuclear or mitochondrial) or germline genetic variation
  • Complex trait genetics of chronic disease (e.g., cardiometabolic disease)
  • Genetic determinants of intermediate phenotypes (e.g., chromatin structure, transcription, translation)
  • Next-generation sequencing/‘omics or high-throughput screening approaches to detecting novel roles of genetic variation in disease
  • Gene-environment interactions

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have an MD and/or PhD or equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated excellence and accomplishments in research along with a desire for team oriented collegiality.
