This position assists the Optical Shop Director in providing high-quality service and products in the area of eyewear at the Casey Eye Institute Optical location in Longview, WA.

 

Relocation package will be offered if willing to move.

 

Note: This is a Trainee Position. Candidates American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) cerified or willing to be certified are strongly encourged to apply. 

Fit, adjust, and dispense eyeglasses, assuring the accuracy of prescription. Advise patient/guardians on features and benefits of frame choice and lens design. Verify insurance eligibility and process patient payments. Maintain clear communication with prescribing physicians and CEI departments.

Computer data entry to maintain patient and product database in optical software system.

Miscellaneous duties as assigned by Director of Optical Shop.

Requires 5 years experience as an optician or equivalent combination of experience and training.  Depending upon state law, Medicare requires optician licensure and/or board certification by the American Board of Opticianary.

• For OHSU locations based in Washington - The State of Washington requires an Optician to be licensed under certain working conditions. When OHSU determines that licensure is required, a 5% differential in pay will be provided to the assigned individual for all hours worked.

Work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact.  Highly motivated self-starter with strong work ethic, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadline, system, and patient needs. Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills. Consistently professional presentation, dress, and appearance desired. Strong relationship-building skills with patients, health plans, providers, staff, management.  Exceptional customer service skills - both in person and on the phone.  Exceptional interpersonal skills - able to resolve conflicts and to problem solve between parties.  Patient advocacy skills - evaluate patient concerns for timely resolution.  Sensitivity to patient needs.  Training and skills in fitting glasses and adjusting frames are required. Proficient in network computer applications using Windows, WP.  Proficient typing skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model.  Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality, and proven successful performance in past and present. 

In states that do not license opticians, American Board of Opticianry certification is required.  BLS certification at the provider level through the American Heart Association is required.

High school diploma or GED preferred.
