The Carbone Lab is searching for a Research Associate that will contribute to an exciting and dynamic research program with a focus on genomics and epigenetics and a service core that supports Epigenetics research at and outside of OHSU. This position is ideal for an individual with expertise in genomics and epigenetics bench techniques and some experience in lab management.

The Research Associate will work side-by-side with the Principal Investigator/core Director (Dr. Lucia Carbone) and Staff Scientist/Associate Director (Dr. Mariam Okhovat) to meet the wet lab needs of the research lab and core clients. They will establish a robust link of communication with the data analysts in the lab and ensure timely progress of research projects. The main responsibilities will be, among others, help generate high-quality data (e.g. ChIP-seq, Hi-C, Whole genome bisulfite sequencing, RNA-seq), developing new protocols, and participation in paper and grant writing. Other responsibilities include:

 

• The day-to-day supervision of junior Research Assistants in the laboratory
• Staying up to date on genomic and epigenetic technologies and direct the implementation of new protocols and procedures, as needed
• Managing the day-to-day operations of the wet-lab, as well as managing the overall project progress in the service core
• Placing and organizing orders, supervising the wet lab core personnel, troubleshooting issues as they occur, communicating with potential clients to assess project feasibility and sample requirements, establish and optimize new protocols if needed, and carry out experiments for complex and sensitive projects/samples

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field and 5 years experience in molecular biology and wet lab experience; OR Master's degree in relevant field and 3 years experience in molecular biology and wet lab experience
• Previous experience with next generation sequencing applications
• Proficient in basic and advanced molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, cloning, ChIP, etc.), cell culture, and handling chromatin
• Proficient in Microsoft office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Master's degree or PhD
• Pervious lab management exprerience
• Strong record of research presentation
• Experience with advanced high-throughput assays (i.e. RRBS, ChIP-seq and HiC)
