The purpose of this position is to provide ophthalmic patient care assistance to faculty in the Casey Eye satellite clinics in Hood River and The Dalles, providing ancillary screening and testing as necessary.
Note: this is a trainee position, trainee applicants will be considered and must meet the minimum qualifications of the position within 12 months of hire.
Perform ophthalmic testing as appropriate per patient, including distance and near vision, corneal curvature, color vision, lensometry, interpupillary distance, applanation, laser interferometry, refractometry, retinoscopy, fogging, cross cylinder refinement, measurement of accommodation, Worth 4 dot test, stereopsis tests, near point of convergence, ductions, versions and vergences. Assist in performance in laser surgery. Perform testing and evaluations of patients.
Screen patients for ophthalmic exams, including chief complaint, history, allergies, medications, supplements. Perform protocol refractions and ophthalmic evaluations for various clinical studies.
Assist doctors during examination as needed; prepare for and assist minor surgeries; apply eye dressings, protective shields and safety glasses; as directed by physician, dispense medication prescriptions as needed by physician.
erform indentation applanation and noncontact tonometry, obtain comprehensive ocular motility movements.
Set up ophthalmic exam rooms, perform minor repairs on and maintain ophthalmic instruments.
Participate in continuing education courses and activities, maintain JCAHPO certification. Have knowledge of and be able to practice JCAHO clinical guidelines. Demonstrate competence in all required skills during yearly skills evaluation. On an as needed basis, be able to perform duties as assigned by supervisor.
Training position must meet these qualifications within 12 months of start date.
COA or COT certification preferred.
