Department Overview

Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery has an excellent professional opportunity as a board certified/eligible, fellowship trained, general surgeon to join our team dedicated to outstanding patient care at OHSU in Portland, Oregon.  The reporting relationship is to the Division Head and OHSU Department of Surgery Chair within the School of Medicine.  This position will start in the 2022 academic year and can be negotiated.  

Function/Duties of Position

• Clinical. The candidate is expected to have proficiency in abdominal wall reconstruction, complex hernia repair, fistulas, and have experience with advanced endoscopic therapies. Interest in nutritional studies a plus. The Division Head of General Surgery will assign the clinical schedule. Typical clinical responsibilities include 1-2 days in clinic and scheduled OR time throughout the week and can include occasional weekends. This position will also be expected to take call, as assigned, with other faculty on nights, weekends, and holidays. OHSU has affiliate partners within the Northern Oregon region and there may be an opportunity for performing surgeries in those locations on a limited basis.

• Education. Since OHSU is a teaching facility, teaching medical students and residents in the clinical setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year is required. Teaching assignments will be given from the Director of Education.
• Research. There are resources available for start-up research and ongoing support in line with other faculty and Division needs. There may be opportunities to collaborate with other department faculty on research projects that may be of interest.
• Administration. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on Department needs and areas of expertise and interest. There will be opportunities to participate in Departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • MIS Fellowship, and specialized training in complex hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction is encouraged
