Function/Duties of Position

The PAS Resource Specialist for the Spine Center supports a range of administrative and clinical support functions for the Center. The PAS Resource Specialist is responsible for providing leadership and guidance for PAS Specialists in the areas of financial screening, patient eligibility for services, managed care and other health care contract terms, billing and coding, and complex patient referrals. The PAS Resource Specialist will provide assistance in the use of the PAS network software.


The PAS Resource Specialist gathers and records required information about patients; provides specific customer services which include screening for financial eligibility, confirming health insurance coverage and individual’s obligations, obtaining necessary authorizations for care, coordinating medical, surgical, and diagnostic test appointments, and assisting patients in an office and clinic setting. Duties include processing pre-authorization requirements with outside entities, handling incoming calls, processing new patient referrals, return visit requests, provider inquiries, as well as reviewing outpatient instructions with the patient and triaging phone calls related to patient care.


This position may also provide instruction to PAS Specialist personnel on processes and procedures and will provide cross-coverage and fill-in coverage as needed for department PAS Specialist and PAS Resource Specialist roles, as directed by the supervisory team.

 

The PAS Resource Specialist for the Spine Center supports a range of administrative and clinical support functions for the Department. Responsibilities include:

  • Managed Care Coordination 
  • Surgery Scheduling Coordination
  • Referral Coordination 
  • Call processing
  • Integrated care
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications

  • One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations; OR one and a half years of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position and 6 months experience in a medical office setting
  • Thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care
  • Excellent proficiency in computer programs including MS Office Suite and medical based computer programs, with typing of at least 45 words per minute
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with multi-line phones
  • Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality, and proven successful performance at past and present employers

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Medical office experience and working with patients with spine conditions
  • Formal customer service training
  • Surgery scheduling experience
  • Epic scheduling experience
