13KPV provides care to adult patients ranging in age from 18-100 who have a variety of oncology diagnoses requiring acute medical and/or surgical care. These diagnoses include but are not limited to cancer of solid organs, lymphatic and hematologic systems including medical, surgical, urologic, gynecologic, neurologic, ENT, bone marrow transplant and radiation oncology patients. In addition, the unit provides general medical surgical care to appropriate overflow patients. Patients on 13KPV require 1:3-1:5 nursing care including chemotherapy administration, radiation precautions, blood brain barrier pre and post procedural care, post-operative surgical care, supportive care for complications of oncology therapy (including management of physical and psychological symptoms) and end-of life care for the dying. A multidisciplinary approach to patient care is used to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and coordinate patient needs.
The Certified Nursing Assistant is part of the multi disciplinary team providing care to OHSU patients. The Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct or general nursing care to patients from admission through discharge under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse and within the scope of practice defined by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. They assist the patients, patient’s families and friends, nursing staff, and other OHSU personnel to assure the delivery of comprehensive quality care in a safe, confidential and comfortable environment.
