Function/Duties of Position

Responsible for independent implementation of experiments involving rodent models of psychiatric disorders that include surgical, viral, and behavioral manipulations. Duties include: 

 

  • Manage all aspects of an electrophysiology behavioral neuroscience laboratory including supervising all orders, preparation of regulatory protocol and research reports, training and supervising of students
  • Independent implementation of experiments involving rodent models of psychiatric disorders that include surgical, viral, and behavioral manipulations
  • Independent responsibility for research studies such as choice of antibody for a given paradigm
  • Monitor expenditure related to federal grant research supply budget

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field and 5 years of relevant experience; OR Master's Degree in relevant field and 3 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in performing rodent neuroscience behavior, surgical and histology methodologies with a clear demonstration that experiments can be carried out independently

  • Experience with data collection, analysis and data illustration

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise students and Research Assistants in a laboratory setting

  • Experience with preparing and implanting animal research related regulatory protocols

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory methods such as operation of skinner boxes and surgical methods

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain supply levels for a multiple procedures in a relatively large laboratory

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience ordering laboratory supplies

  • Familiarly with OHSU regulatory and fiscal systems

  • Experience in dealing with different vendors, suppliers, customers in different contexts
