Department Overview

The Food Service Worker has regular responsibility for preparing simple foods such as salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and brewing coffee in a volume dining or food service facility. This position will require learning your way around different cafe's and coffee shops at OHSU's main campus. Cashier and Barista training provided.  

Function/Duties of Position

  • Food Service Activities. May serve food items on the serving line. Stocks adequate supplies of food and beverage merchandise, paper goods. merchandises; communicates with cooks for food needs on the line.
  • Cover other team members for breaks and backs up co-workers during busy periods.  Food Preparation. checks for proper temperature of prepared foods with thermometer; observes food to be sure it is visually appealing and of high quality.
  • Sanitation Activities. Cleans sinks, counters, fountains, and serving area; sweeps and mops floors; wipes spills; collects and removes trash; replaces trash-can liners;  pots, and pans; fill and empty dishwasher; stack clean pans; and clean coffee pots, blenders, pop machine dispensers, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Some positions may require the ability to push food carts and/or lift materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Additional Details

Opportunities for advancement. Barista, Cashier and cook positions after in house training or transferring into other OHSU departments with your qualifications.
