South Operating Room (Main OR) is a large 25-bed OR primarily an adult inpatient operating room with a small volume of outpatient procedures including: Cardiac/ Thoracic, General Surgery/Minimally Invasive/ Colorectal/Bariatric, Gynecology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neuro/neuro spine, Orthopedic/orthopedic spine, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Transplant, Urology, Vascular, Robotic (Urology/GYN/Oral), and Trauma. Surgical procedures on infants and children less than 18 years of age are also performed if the procedure requires specialized equipment found only at this location.

 

• This role is subject to a collective bargaining agreement with the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA).
  • We are hiring multiple positions. The positions will be distributed based on the current amount of knowledge and skills of the other nurses in the unit/departments.
• FTE: 0.9, Full Time
• Shift: Nights Shift
• Shift Length: 8 Hours
• Start and Stop Times: 1845-0715 x 3, variable days, depending on departmental needs.
  • Weekend Obligation: Weekend shifts are required depending on unit needs following the transition to independent practice.
  • Weekend Obligation: Weekend shifts are required depending on unit needs following the transition to independent practice.
  • Call Obligation: Begins in Perioperative service units following the transition to independent practice.
    • Weekend shifts are required depending on unit needs and designated shift following the transition to independent practice.
    • Weekday/Weekend Night Call: Each nurse covers two-six, 4 hour (1900-2300) or 8-hour (0700-1500, 1500-2300, 2300-0700) night call shifts per four-week scheduling block.
    • Unit call obligation may change based on operational need.
    • If staff are scheduled (not extra) to work at least four weekend days in a four-week scheduling block, they are exempt from all call in that block schedule.
• Holiday Work and Call Obligation: Each nurse works and takes call 2 holidays per year, one-summer holiday, and one-winter holiday.
• Floating Obligation: Begins in perioperative service units after the transition to independent practice.
• Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.
  • External Candidates: Vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests up to 24-weeks from the start date are permitted by manager approval prior to start date. All other vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU.
  • Internal Nurse Candidates: All vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU. Pre-scheduled vacations or leave plans must be disclosed before consideration for hire to determine the start date

The OHSU Operating Room provides around-the-clock multidisciplinary services to adult patients across their life span. The department cares for Ambulatory, Adult Acute Care and Adult ICU patients arriving from home, ED or from the In-Patient setting. OHSU is a Magnet designated hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.

Minimum Qualifications to be eligible to interview:    

Associate or Baccalaureate Degree of Nursing awarded from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).

 

Nursing Education: 

• Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Preferred
• Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.

 

Certifications and Licensure: 

• Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before start date
• Current BLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA by the start date

 

Department Specific Requirements:

BLS must not expire during the TTP Program.

 

Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Individualized Orientation Schedule of 24 weeks:

• Residency Program and Specialty Fellowship Program Schedule: About 24 weeks.
• Group-based, self-directed, and preceptorship shifts are integrated weekly for up to 40 hours per week.
  • Group-based sessions: Monday-Friday variable times 0700-17:30 up to 8hrs per session
  • Self-directed shifts: Monday-Friday up to 12hrs per day, variable per week.
  • Preceptorship shifts: Assigned based on preceptor team schedules during Monday-Sunday 8, 10, or 12hour shifts starting at 0645, 0845, 1045, 1445, 1645, 1845, 2045 and 2245. Transition to hired shift is based on unit readiness and the completion of group-based sessions.
