As a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy of Oregon Health & Science University in the area of biology of gametes and preimplantation embryos this researcher will study meiosis 1 and mechanisms of haploidy in mammalian gametes and embryos using various embryological, molecular, immunocytochemical and cell culture techniques. This research is critical for developing functional gametes for treatment of infertility and defining safety and efficacy strategies of novel cell therapies for in vitro fertilization. Embryology experiments will require intermittent late night and early morning (12am-6am) coverage which is outside of typical work day. Flexibility and professionalism at these hours are paramount.
This candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, maintaining laboratory records; gathering, organizing and summarizing data; writing and publishing manuscripts; presenting results at seminars and conferences, writing experimental protocols; preparing various reports; contributing to grant applications and progress reports; training new personnel and performing a variety of duties which require flexibility, judgment, and unique experience in the field of stem cell and developmental biology.
The Postdoctoral researcher will be a project leader at the Center for Embryonic Cell & Gene Therapy (CECGT, http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/research/centers-institutes/embryonic-cell-gene-therapy-center/). This research center reports to the Chief Research Officer and is a critical scientific center at OHSU; this position is responsible for communications with high level internal and external personnel and must operate with great accuracy and efficiency. Overall the position promotes the mission of the Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy by exhibiting reliability, productivity, professionalism, accuracy, timeliness, problem-solving, strong ethical understanding of our complex scientific focus, as well as compassion and kindness when communicating.
