Department Overview

The OHSU School of Nursing in La Grande is located on the Eastern Oregon University campus. EOU serves as a regional center for education, culture and scholarship. La Grande is the gateway to Eastern Oregon’s snow-capped peaks, beautiful forests, churning rivers, rocky cliffs, sage-covered hills, fertile farmlands and friendly towns. La Grande is 262 miles from Portland.

 

Under direct supervision, primarily provides general administrative support for a project, team, or work unit. Similar to an Office Clerk or Specialist*. May also include some basic data entry and report generation.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Peer tutors assist and coach other OHSU SON students in becoming a more successful and independent learner.
  • Peer tutors provide and help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for their assigned students, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments, and material.
  • Peer tutors should be available between 4-10 hours per week for tutoring sessions.
  • Provide individualized content and skill-development tutoring to assigned students (tutees).
  • Individual student assignments may be requested by course faculty.
  • Create and maintain a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and tutee.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in an Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours). 
  • Completion of at least one year of study at the OHSU SON.
  • A recorded B+ or higher in the course where tutoring is occurring. 

Experience

  • Positive instructor referral/recommendation for course(s) being tutored.

  • Must maintain active enrollment at OHSU SON.
  • Possess the ability and willingness to work with individuals and groups of students from diverse cultural, economic, and academic backgrounds.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
  • Good academic and student conduct standing.
