Department Overview

Oregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon's only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has varied and challenging caseload.

 

The surgical pathology lab processes over 43,000 specimens per year. The Department of Pathology has collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, a post-sophomore fellowship program, and five post-graduate fellowship programs. We are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and state-of-the-art core laboratory. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.

Function/Duties of Position

This position will be assigned to the Anatomic Pathology Division, with principal responsibilities in Cytopathology, and additional responsibilities in Surgical Pathology, which operates under a subspecialty sign out model.  

 

The responsibilities include the clinical service and teaching functions of the sections, as well as sharing evening and weekend call on an equal basis. Your service and other assignments will be reviewed and modified by the department Chair, as needed.

 

Educational responsibilities include participation in the instructional program for medical and graduate students, residents and fellows of the Department as assigned by the Chair.

 

Service responsibilities include participation in committees and councils of OHSU; outreach and public service programs and professional societies with the knowledge and consent of the Chair.

Research responsibilities are to participate in clinical and basic research programs at OHSU as opportunities provide, and to work toward funding these studies through grants and contracts.  

Required Qualifications

  • Board certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, and in Cytopathology.
  • Interest in providing the highest quality medical care and medical education, and actively participating in clinical scholar-type research resulting in publication.
  • Subspecialty fellowship training and/or expertise in cytopathology is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Additional expertise in one or more surgical pathology subspecialties is preferred.
