Department Overview

The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.

Function/Duties of Position

The General Laborer is a working title for Laborer 1, it is the first level of a two-level series. This position is responsible for operating vehicle(s) to transport passengers between the Max Light Rail station and the West Campus. Additionally, this role will also perform various duties in support of technicians performing Facilities Maintenance work at the ONPRC, which includes moving boxes, furniture relocation, hanging pictures, shelves and cabinets, making parts runs and deliveries, assisting with small property landscaping projects, laundry, and custodial support.  

Some duties will require work to be performed in areas that are not environmentally controlled, and may impose a potential risk of exposure to hazardous items such as laboratory chemicals, harsh cleaning agents, biohazardous, and broken glass and other "sharp" objects.

The successful candidate for this position will have the ability to communicate effectively and interact positively in small group settings and one-on-one with scientific and administrative staff, and be able to read, communicate, and follow oral or written instructions. This position will work independently and with minimum supervision, which requires excellent organization skills. Candidates should be able to able to lift, pull, and push supplies up to 30lbs, and perform the essential functions of this position with or without accommodation.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma (or equivalent), AND
  • Valid Driver's License, acceptable driving record, and ability to pass Enterprise-Rent-a-Car's driver background check.
  • Must be 21 or over to drive shuttle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability in mathematics, and possibly computer software, to perform data entry/support duties
