Department Overview

This position exists within the School of Medicine at OHSU in the Department of Neurology Central Administration and provides management and overall oversight of Finance and Accounting aspects within the Department of Neurology.  This includes but is not limited to: general ledger accounting, monthly/annual close processes, routine monthly variance analysis and forecasting, complex analysis of accounting/funding situations, annual budgeting process, development and implementation of finance and accounting controls/processes/procedures.

Function/Duties of Position

The position provides expertise in Oracle, OGA, Cognos, Rubix, CANDID,  and other university information systems with responsibility and oversight for over $36M in annual departmental financial activity: $16.7M in University Unrestricted Funds (including $10M in Faculty Practice Plan Funds), $4.5M in Foundation Funds, and $15.5M in annual grant direct costs ($23M in annual grant awards).  The position works closely with the Department Chair, Department Administrator, Clinical Operations Director, Neurology HR Manager, Sub-specialty Directors and coordinators in providing financial analysis and support.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree AND 7 years of applicable experience
  • Leadership experience in financial management
  • Experience in either an academic environment or a large, complex, diverse organization with emphasis on financial management, business development, and strategic planning
  • Development of large and complex annual budget plans
  • Management and oversight of routine accounting and finance transactions
  • Developing standardized financial reporting packages for leadership
  • Development and implementation of Finance and Accounting controls, processes and procedures
  • Management and development of professional staff
  • In depth knowledge of financial planning, accounting, and budgeting
  • Skilled in creating financial models and forecasting
  • Ability to think critically and strategically
  • Ability to analyze and implement necessary internal financial controls
  • Very strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be persuasive and professional in verbal and written communications with multiple constituencies including employees, customers and peers
  • Ability to provide management direction in an environment of change, willingness to make difficult and challenging decisions
  • Ability to foster creativity and problem solving skills
  • High level of organization skill
  • Ability to manage competing demands
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, formatting and pivot tables
  • Experience with relational databases
  • Strong basis in generally accepted accounting principles for separation of duties, audit standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Accounting, or other related field
  • Experience with reports and queries within Rubix and Cognos system
  • Knowledge of federal requirements of NIH grants and other grants, contracts and funding agencies
  • Experience with faculty compensation models/plans
