Department Overview

The Hemophilia Center at OHSU is the only federally-recognized Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) in Oregon and southwest Washington. The HTC provides integrated care to children and adults with hereditary bleeding and clotting disorders. OHSU is one of only eight regional core hemophilia centers in the U.S., leading the Mountain States Regional Hemophilia Network. The Hemophilia Center serves people with inherited blood disorders, such as von Willebrand’s disease, hemophilia a, hemophilia b, other factor disorders and platelet disorders, as well as those affected by inherited clotting disorders.

Function/Duties of Position

The overall purpose of this position is to provide clients of The Hemophilia Center with timely delivery of medication and supplies. The Senior Shipping Specialist primarily works independently and frequently communicates with pharmacy staff, clinic staff, clients, supply vendors, and shipping agencies. The primary duties are focused on independent daily stores operations, shipping medications direct to client homes, confirming shipment delivery, resolving shipment exceptions, purchasing medical supplies, maintaining inventories, and is accountable for accurate patient record filing. This position supports a healthcare department and has a heavy focus on customer service.

Shipping – Packages and ships hemophilia medications, medical supplies, and physical therapy supplies for shipment direct to client homes via FedEx, UPS, and StatMD; prints and mails financial assistance applications, appointment reminders, etc.; calls clients upon delivery to confirm receipt and record confirmation in the electronic health record; addresses delivery delays and resolves exceptions with shipping agency.

Purchasing – Coordinates and places OHSU Logistics orders; places and completes Oracle purchasing requisitions; researches alternative products when there are vendor shortages and/or backorders.

Stores – Ensures security of all storeroom items; checks items received and inspects for damage; reorders when supplies become low; sorts and organizes department storerooms; retrieves misdelivered packages; answers questions from staff regarding stock availability and purchasing procedures.

Records – Develops record keeping system for stores; scans pharmacy Delivery Tickets and Work Orders and accurately uploads to the electronic health record.

Inventory – Completes monthly inventory expiration date audits; maintains shipping supply inventories; orders and maintains Pharmacy, Nursing, and Physical Therapy supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience performing stores and inventory work; AND
  • Training or experience providing knowledge of inventory control systems, and transportation agencies and shipping methods.
  • May require current Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements.
  • Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipping methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience independently purchasing and maintaining supply inventories.
  • Current and valid Driver’s license and driving record that meets OHSU’s driving requirements.
