Department Overview

Responsible for billing for surgical and procedures, including facility and anesthesia as well as supplies and implants. Responsible for scheduling surgical cases, and ensuring that information is accurate, schedule is reviewed and accurate. Secondary work will include phone coverage and booking surgical/procedure cases.

Function/Duties of Position

Perioperative BillingResponsible for accurate and timely billing of surgical and procedural cases (OR, PCU, GI, IR, Cath, CT, L&D and EP), including anesthesia and facility charges.  Investigates and reconciles documentation errors or missing documentation.  Research and verify implant prices and charges, review accuracy of implant documentation and investigates and reconciles errors.  Respond and manage group billing email address.   Responsible for managing workqueue messages from Epic and resolving discrepancies.   


Scheduling Add on Surgical and OOR cases: Responsible for taking all add-ons for same day or next day for all OR sites.  Must confirm that all required information is obtained from caller prior to scheduling case and that caller has notified all necessary departments about add on (IE: Anesthesia or Patient Placement).  Notify the appropriate OR front desk and Core Tech of add on and confirm that picklist was received.  Contact Vendors for any case requiring implants to ensure they will be here at time of surgery


Management of multi-line phones and group email box:  Responsible for answering calls received from individuals in numerous OHSU departments and off hill providers.  Responsible for making sure each call is answered in a timely manner with minimal hold time and that the caller’s requests are attended to. Responsible to triage phone calls and redirect individuals that have reached office in error to the correct department/individual or transfer to the campus operator for assistance.  Responsible for reading and responding to all email sent to the “group email box” throughout the day. Sort & Save emails into the appropriate “folders”.


Schedule Surgical Cases: Responsible for scheduling cases out of work queue.  Responsible for all the scheduling, rescheduling and canceling of surgical and non-surgical cases in and out of OR. Oversee the PSS to ensure that all surgical information received is accurate. All Op Time surgical case submissions are reviewed and errors or missing information is requested from the PSS prior to scheduling a surgical case. Accurately place all OR and OOR cases in the correct case order on a daily basis, making sure that all requirements for a doctor operating in multiple sites are met. 

Required Qualifications

  • Six months of work experience in a medical office setting, including high volume direct patient contact OR one year of work experience in a high volume direct public contact position.
  • Basic computer keyboarding skills including typing of 30 - 45 wpm Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
  • High levels of accountability and reliability.
  • Ability to receive and provide construction feedback to others.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
