Function/Duties of Position

The Clinical Site Director for Predoctoral Patient Intake & Urgent Care is a full-time faculty member who provides clinical leadership, management, and oversight of the clinical operations in the Predoctoral Patient Intake and Urgent Care Clinics.

 

The Clinical Site Director

  • Works collaboratively to provide clinical experiences for dental students in the admission of new patients and the provision of urgent care services 
  • Manages clinical systems that foster quality patient care and dental student experiences
  • Supervises dental student providers, calibrates faculty assigned in these areas 
  • Provides direct patient care during some academic sessions and during academic breaks.
  • Onboards dental student and faculty
  • Provides student assessment
  • Works with SOD Leadership to foster an environment which supports and engages dental providers, staff, and patients to promote wellness and improve oral health outcomes.

The faculty member is eligible to practice endodontic privately in the OHSU SOD Faculty Practice.

 

A Group Practice Coordinator works directly with the Director to provide administrative support.

 

This position reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Systems within the School of Dentistry and is academically housed within the Department of Restorative Dentistry. The general pattern of working hours corresponds with scheduled clinic hours, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.  Deviations from this pattern may be necessary at times.

 

Additional Position Responsibilities 

  • Assigns, co-assigns, and re-assigns patients to students based on student need, student expertise, and student level of performance.
  • Determines staffing needs, scheduling of student providers, faculty providers, and patients to provide services and meet patient intake metrics.
  • Provides in-direct supervision of the Group Practice Coordinator.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Site Directors for DMD Restorative, Periodontics, Oral Surgery and Endodontics in the timely and compassionate delivery of urgent dental services.
  • Participates in review of SOD policy and procedures, chart audits, and axiUm reporting used in the evaluation of student performance, clinical efficiency, and compliance to SOD policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and oversees compliance to all OHSU, OHSU SOD, OHSA, CDC, Oregon Board of Dentistry and other regulatory agency policy and procedure.
  • Provides oversight for the teledentistry services provided within these practice areas.
  • Administers clinical skills assessments (CSAs) associated with urgent care.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators and metrics to measure effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Reports outcomes and outcome assessments regularly as requested in oral, written or presentation mode.
  • Improve clinic flow, organization, utilization and productivity.
  • Introduce new technologies and techniques.
  • Assist with innovations to improve education experience and delivery of patient services.
  • Builds, develops, and fosters partnerships within OHSU and with community partners.
  • Establishes rapport with public and private clients to grow SOD referral base and resources.

Required Qualifications

  • Dental degree (DDS/DMD) from a CODA accredited school, or advanced training in a specialty program at a CODA accredited school
  • Eligible for unrestricted licensure in Oregon
  • BLS from the American Heart Association
  • Microsoft computer skills to include Work, PowerPoint and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced training in a specialty program, AEGD or GPR
  • Master’s in education, Healthcare Systems, or Masters in Business Administration
  • Prior experience in patient intake systems
  • Prior experience in urgent care delivery and management of urgent care delivery systems
  • Prior experience with axiUm and Epic electronic healthcare delivery systems
  • Membership and participation in professional organizations
