Function/Duties of Position

The purpose of this clinical research position is to support the ongoing projects investigating placental function. This position requires a hardworking, dedicated individual who can work independently.  This person will spend a big portion of their time collecting and processing human placentas. This individual will also be responsible for clinical, administrative, and educational research activities related to the management of patients on clinical trials; data entry/reporting, analysis and problem solving. Good communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with investigators/staff and collaborators as well as excellent organizational skills are a must.  Computer experience in Microsoft Word and Excel required. The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Appointee will participate in the on call schedule including intermittent, weekend, and holiday coverage. Position may require travel to off-site partnership locations around the state of Oregon. This is a night shift position.

Placenta Processing

Follow oral and written protocols to process placental tissue, blood, CSF and urine samples

Data Manaement and Abstraction

Maintenance and submission of patient data and preparation for quality assurance audits and monitoring. Data abstraction for MFM databases and all assigned studies. Data management on assigned studies including REDCap.

Clinical Trials Management

Supervision of women’s health clinical research trials at OHSU and other affiliated hospitals including maintenance and submission of patient data, analysis and evaluation of protocol activities, maintenance and preparation for quality assurance audits . Also includes all data management on assigned studies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in relevant field of research AND
    1 year of relevant experience OR
  • Associate's AND 3 years of relevant field of research OR
  • 4 years of relevant field of research OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a small group setting, and one-on-one with collaborators  in a positive and productive manner, and to work efficiently and skillfully with a variety of diverse staff and collaborators.
  • Working knowledge (12 months relevant work experience) of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Adobe Photoshop or other graphics software.
  • Demonstrated independence an excellent eye detail and organization skills.
  • Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties.
  • Laboratory management and quality control skills.
  • Organizational and time management skills sufficient to prioritize work demands, and to coordinate and document research and work protocols with other staff. 
  • High level of self-motivation and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year relevant research experience in a laboratory setting.  
  • Women’s Health specific experience is preferred. 
  • 3-5 years research experience preferred.
  • Clinical Trials experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous work with physicians in an academic environment. 
  • Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research, with demonstrated experience in problem solving.
  • Ability to contribute to written reports.
