Function/Duties of Position

The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories specialize in designing, validating, and delivering cutting edge assays for oncology that are CLIA certified and CAP accredited. The Immune Monitoring and Cancer Omics Labs (IMCO) is a research arm of KDL focused on development and GLP-like implementation of translational research assays.  Our large, ever-expanding menu of diagnostic and research assays, directly informs the clinical care of oncology patients, (CLIA/CAP assays), contributes to translational and clinical trials-oriented research projects with academic and private sector collaborators. 


This position is a member of the Immune Monitoring and Cancer Omics Services (IMCO) analytics team and will report to the director of IMCO. Overall, this position will support IMCO’s data analysis needs focused on integration of clinical metadata into large cohort-level analysis of RNAseq, mIHC and proteomics data. The right candidate will work closely with mIHC and CyTOF analytics teams and wet bench scientists co-leading the development of efficient pipelines for streamlined data analysis and visualization. Working closely with exciting, highly-dimensional human data (omics, imaging, mass cytometry and seq), the ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge of statistics and cancer immunology.  Duties include teamwork, client (industry) interactions, data management, pipeline building and maintenance, statistical analysis, custom analysis with data modeling and machine learning, and standardized report building. This is a highly exciting opportunity, utilizing cutting edge assays and innovative analytics to interrogate cancer biology, precision medicine in a clinically meaningful, actionable way. 


Duties will include:

2. Data Management: Assists in development and implementation of data management tools, software infrastructure for improving data manipulation process and output with the goal of synergizing and streamlining all analytic and clinical data. 


3. Workflows: Leads the development of automated data analysis workflows for all datasets. Investigates published approaches, adopts/enhances approaches as needed, and works with software developers to implement complete workflows that are reproducible and scalable.


4. Tools: Uses best practice software development, data analysis and biostatistics approaches to implement analysis and visualization tools for all assays and datasets. Is responsible for developing, validating, and documenting the tools developed.


5. Report generation and Custom Analysis: Is responsible for custom analyses that arise from omics, imaging and sequencing datasets generated by or for IMCO. Report generation and interaction with prospective internal and external clients to assure data generated reflects biologically relevant questions and answers hypothesis.

Required Qualifications


  • Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Data Science AND 3 years of relevant experience
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Biostatistics, Computational Biology or Data Science AND 6 years of relevant experience 


  • Experience using code-based data analysis in R
  • Algorithm development to help translate research into clinically actionable insights
  • Experience with large datasets and statistical modeling
  • Proficient understanding of cancer immunology 

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Advanced skills in a high- level programming language - R is a must
  • Understanding of high throughput biological data (human) and biostatistics
  • Experience with data visualization in R (R- ggplot, plotly, Rshiny; Python- Bokeh, Seaborn, dashboard, markdown)
  • Knowledge of Linux or Unix commend line and high- performance computing
  • An understanding of machine learning, data modeling or statistical techniques, such as mixed-model regression, principal component analysis, classifier construction and validation, biomarker discovery and optimization methods
  • Demonstrated excellence in translational research (immunology, cancer biology, flow, imaging, single cell assays)
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time
  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ph.D. in biostatistics, computational biology or data science. 


  • 4+ years of work experience as a data analyst, bioinformatics scientist or biostatistics
  • Two years team science experience in a collaborative translational environment
  • One year of hands-on experience with analysis of RNAseq, omics or scRNAseq. Running analysis on high computing clusters 

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • Knowledge of dashboard building
  • Hands on, real-life experience with data analysis and report generating
  • Excellent knowledge or parametric and non-parametric statistical tests and data normalization strategies
