Department Overview

The Knight Cardiovascular Institute (KCVI) Senior Clinical Research Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute clinical trials program. In collaboration with the KCVI Clinical Trials Medical Director, Department Administrator and clinical leaders throughout the KCVI, this position is responsible for managing all operational aspects of the program including personnel management and team development, as well as assisting the Medical Director in the program’s approach to clinical trial conduct and quality assurance, as well as supporting faculty in developing future goals towards the development of individual provider’s clinical trials portfolios.. In addition, this position oversees and supports trial budget development and maintenance, as well as financial forecasting and annual budget development for the program in collaboration with the Department Administrator and the clinical trials Medical Director.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Promote the mission of the Knight Cardiovascular Institute through our Professional Standards of Customer Service, Reliability, Productivity, Professionalism, Accuracy, Timeliness, and Problem-Solving
  • Personnel Management including supervision, performance management, disciplinary action, coaching, team building, delegation of tasks and defining specific roles and responsibilities
  • Hiring/Onboarding
    • Recruitment of all clinical research staff at KCVI 
    • Design and implement an education and onboarding program to support of staff
  • Operations Management
    • Collaborate with KCVI Clinical Leaders to establish program goals
    • Advise on clinical trial portfolio development and provide recommendations towards trial selection
    • Develop and manage industry sponsors relationships, trail recruitment methods and goals, staffing structures and needs, navigation of central OHSU clinical research services and financial goal setting
  • Operations Oversight of clinical trial conduct including personnel management and clinical trials operations
    • SOPs and Process Improvement 
    • Resource Allocation
    • Clinical Research and Clinical Practice Interface 
    • Clinical Trials Reporting 
  • Financial Management in collaboration with KCVI Department Administrator and Clinical Trials Medical Director
    • Develop KCVI Clinical Trials program annual budget
    • Forecast clinical trial performance ad future resource planning
    • Analyze clinical trials financial reporting and budgetary data 
    • Manage KCVI Clinical Trials Spark Program 
  • Strategic Planning and Program Development in collaboration with KCVI Clinical Trial Medical Director, Department Administrator, and Division Chief:
    • Develop strategic internal and external relationships with OHSU Clinical research leaders, industry sponsors. AMCs and clinical organizations/vendors
    • Create visibility for KCVI Clinical Trials Programs through participation in national strategic initiatives/clinic research focused conferences
    • Develop and facilitate strategic initiatives 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field plus 5 years of relevant experience in Clinical Research Program Management, including direct personnel management with at least 3 years’ experience in coordinating clinical trials.
  • Extensive experience in developing clinical trials budgets, managing regulatory components related to clinical studies, navigating Clinical Trials Management Systems (CTMS) and electronic health records and experience developing annual operating budgets.
