Function/Duties of Position

The Enterprise Coding Provider Educator is responsible  for  auditing OHSU Providers' and Residents' professional services documentation and coding, and supports the Providers, Departments  and Divisions, Integrity, and Enterprise Coding in ensuring quality and accurate reporting of patient care and provider work through education, training, monitoring and feedback. This position works to ensure accurate and compliant documentation and coding standards are being consistently met. 

 

The Enterprise Coding Provider Educator researches and evaluates coding and documentation regulations and guidelines and works in alignment with Integrity and Enterprise Coding to create and deliver consistent and compliant education and training to Providers, Residents, departments and divisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Healthcare, Business or related field plus 5 years of production coding experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Detailed knowledge of medical coding systems, procedures, and documentation requirements
  • Knowledge of auditing concepts and principles
  • Certification in CPC, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed coding education and certification from an accredited institution such as AHIMA or AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, RHIT, RHIA)
  • Minimum 3 years of coding experience
  • 5 years production coding experience
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Ability to develop and implement a training plan
  • Excellent oral, written, communication, and analytical skills
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and policy compliance issues related to medical coding procedures and documentation
  • Knowledge of current and developing issues and trends in medical coding procedures requirements
