Department Overview

The OHSU School of Nursing in Klamath Falls is located on the Oregon Institute of Technology campus, which offers state-of-the art bachelor's degree programs in engineering, health and business technologies. Klamath Falls offers an outstanding array of natural and cultural wonders. Klamath Falls is 280 miles from Portland.

 

The School of Nursing provides hands-on instruction to students using real and simulated clinical environments. The Standardized Patient Model (SPM) is essential to simulated learning by providing experiential learning to students.

 

The SPM will accurately portray specific emotions, behaviors and disease symptoms in accordance with provided instruction while interacting with nursing students during simulated patient encounters. There are multiple positions available on the Ashland campus.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Memorizes a case script detailing specific emotions, behaviors, and disease signs/symptoms for presentation during simulated learning situations.
  • Presents case information in a standardized manner during simulated interactive patient history and/or medical examinations.
  • Remains in a specific patient character as trained when responding to student questions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information related to cases, student behaviors and feedback evaluations.
  • Provides constructive verbal feedback within a structured format, as appropriate to the position.
  • Participates in group training and/or mentorship of newly hired standardized patients.

  • Proven ability to work effectively with others.

  • Ability to accurately maintain a specified character as trained.
  • Ability to work flexible hours on a scheduled on-call basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and electronically through writing and email.
  • Ability to recall case information, as cued by students in a role-play situation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of case and student information.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions and incorporate trainer feedback.
