Department Overview

The Adventist health Portland emergency department serves largely an urban environment on the east side of Portland, caring for over 50,000 patient visits per year. There are many communities at risk around the hospital including diverse nationalities as well as recent immigrants. AHP receives the most cardiac arrest resuscitations in Multnomah County (metro PDX) and has a very active stroke and cardiac program. There is excellent engagement and interaction with hospitalist service. The ED has initiated a research agenda and is currently participating in the ICE-CAP study, research on CNS cooling and recovery from cardiac arrest. This is also an academic site with a regular rotation of medical students, allowing for teaching opportunities. There are three daily Advanced Practice (NP/PA) shifts staffed by 7 FT providers. The physician group has 11 FT physicians primarily staffed at AHP, 5 PT physicians splitting their full-time clinical complement within the OHSU Community ED System, and 4 PT physicians that are primarily staffed in the Marquam Hill ED. The APPs and physicians provide 78 hours of daily coverage.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
