Department Overview

As part of the Business Intelligence & Advanced Analysts (BIAA) division of ITG, this position is responsible for supporting reporting and analytics for the Provider Billing and Enterprise Coding.  The person in this position will interact directly with key business staff to understand key initiatives and how data can be used as strategic asset in support of the business.
 
The business intelligence analyst will take requests for new reports and, through collaboration with the requestor and team members, will identify and document the detailed requirements. The analyst will design and develop a reporting solution that meets the customer requirements and also complies with Enterprise Revenue Cycle (ERC) and BIAA standards. It is expected that the analyst has a working knowledge of Epic Systems revenue cycle workflows and with the Epic Clarity data\Caboodle data warehouse (CDW) structures. Skills and activities required include: an understanding of data warehousing and operational knowledge with SQL, stored procedures, and development experiences in at least one relevant reporting tool such as: Business Objects Webi, SAP Information Design Tool (IDT), Tableau, PowerBI, Cognos, Crystal or Epic Reporting Workbench. The analyst should understand all phases of a system development lifecycle and data analysis.
 
The Systems/Application Analyst will (1) Work with Epic Resolute revenue cycle users and provider billing analytics staff to develop report requirements and specifications.  (2) Design, development and implement financial reporting solutions to support the OHSU Health mission. (3) Collaborate with BIAA to design data warehouse solutions to support the reporting needs. (4) Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle Reporting users to develop and execute test cases and record results and incidents in testing logs (5) Fix incidents and implement the reporting solutions into production. (6) Participate in supporting training of users in the use of reporting tools. 
This will include availability for rotation through an after-hours on-call support model as needed for upgrades, project go lives or to provide ongoing support of new systems that may have 24x7 support agreements.

Function/Duties of Position

Planning, Analysis, Design and Development:
  • Meet with customers to translate complex requests for reporting, system, and data needs and fulfill, validate, revise, deliver, and maintain the solution.
  • Identify and advise on technical limitations, alternatives, data extraction methods, and create data collection tools as needed. 
  • Collaborate with analysts, developers, managers, and leadership to define requirements and inform priorities and needs. 
  • Perform complex research in complicated data environments and front end systems to ensure correct data selection and validity.
  • Interpret results and provide insights, consultation, and decision support for customers.
  • Research and recommend improvements in workflow, documentation, or alternative solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Intelligence Architects for the development and\or maintenance of CDW Professional Billing Universes
Report Generation:
  • Requires in depth/advanced knowledge of SAP Business Objects (i.e. Contexts, Variable creation, Drilling, Parameter Passing, Formatting). 
  • In depth/advanced knowledge of SAP Information Design Tool (IDT) to modify and update PB Universes as needed for Webi reporting and dashboarding. Requires a deep understanding of data modelling to avoid traps or contexts/loops, and to develop according to best practices. 
  • Knowledge of data visualization development with tools such as Microsoft PowerBI.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Access to maintain Access databases for MSOW/Morrissey reporting. 
  • Write complex queries and run reports from the various data warehouses, OHSU Epic, Enterprise Revenue Cycle Charge Analysis (ECA), and other OHSU systems.
  • Alternate and translate between different database platforms and languages.
  • Optimize SQL code for efficient execution.
  • Explore and explain outcomes, significant trends, and impact.
  • Distribute monthly, special quarterly, and annual reports as requested.
  • Manage confidentiality of highly sensitive subjects.
  • Research and implement improved and/or automated distribution methods.
  • Respond to report consumers to explain significance of reports and impact of results.
OHSU Epic EMR Embedded Reports:
  • Create, maintain, and train in use of EMR embedded/created reports and dashboards.
  • Test and review with every Epic upgrade. Follow best practices and optimization to limit system impact.
  • Participates with Information Technology Group staff in planning, designing, and implementing new or enhanced information systems.
  • Identify workflows that would most benefit from embedded reporting and make recommendations on new methods and practices.
Database Development and Managment: 
  • Update current database programs, create new database programs to support the Department.
  • Test and make needed changes when updates are implemented.
  • Ensure data integrity in current system and when creating and moving to new systems.
  • Provide recommendations for selection of systems for new programs and projects.
Account Management/Project Coordination: 
  • Manage relations between customers and data team. 
  • Document and delegate report requests, troubleshoot problems with reports or other aspects, collaborate with customers to determine needs and partnerships. 
  • Ensure timely communication and delivery of reports.
This position is currently 100% telework/remote and may include remote work long-term. Candidate must be able to work from home full-time initially.

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and four years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and five years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
Six years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree
Job Related Knowledge, Skill and Abilities (Competencies):
  • Proven communication, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Experience using relational databases as a source for reporting
  • Ability to read and explain a relational data models
  • Ability to read, write and maintain SQL code
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements
  • Experience using report authoring tools such as MS Excel, SAP Crystal Reports, IBM Cognos
  • Report Studio, Tableau, MS PowerBI
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
Certification or Proficiency within 6 months of hire in one of the following:
  • Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Palette (Reporting Workbench, Radar, SlicerDicer).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:
Prior work as a reporting, software development, data or business intelligence analyst, where responsibilities included:
  • Interfacing directly with business staff
  • Experience gathering and documenting business requirements and planning and managing projects
  • Experience creating technical documentation of reports and data/report models
  • Providing recommendations on appropriate use of data
  • Identify gaps or data quality issues
