Department Overview

This position is part of the Healthcare Epic Applications Training Team, which is dedicated to supporting new employee orientation, education, training, staff development, leadership development, competency assessments and employee engagement across the OHSU health system. 


The Trainer position supports the educational and staff development needs of OHSU Healthcare by providing training and support on the use of our Integrated Health Record, Epic. This requires a coordinated and collaborative approach with multiple departments, including our Information Technology Group (ITG), Clinical Informatics Department (CID), Patient Care Services Division (PCSD), Professional Services, Pharmacy and Laboratory, among others. In particular, the person in this position works closely with the Medical Directors, Nursing Informatics, Professional Practice Leaders, other Epic Trainers and OHSU partners/ affiliates to ensure that staff use EpicCare to maximize the delivery of quality patient care.

Function/Duties of Position

Training Delivery



  • Demonstrates the ability to learn and become proficient in EpicCare Clinical applications trained by Clinical Education Services.

  • Demonstrates high level classroom management skills and the ability to follow a lesson plan as written.

  • Completes credentialing process for training OHSU EpicCare courses

  • Develops and maintains knowledge regarding EpicCare end-user functionality and workflows.

  • Collaborates with other members of the HEAT Epic training team to ensure the overall consistency and effectiveness of training.

  • May contribute to the design of training materials, handouts, lesson plans, on-line modules and presentation materials.

  • Teach HEAT classes in formal instructor-led training sessions for new and experienced learners.

  • Provides site-support during implementation of new programs.

  • Documents training completion in the learning management system to facilitate user access to EpicCare.

  • Demonstrates customer service excellence in accordance with OHSU policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:


Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience; AND

1 year experience providing training, course design and web development including online courses, instructional design, technical writing, and understanding of theories, tools and methods of adult learning; OR


An equivalent combination of education and experience; AND


Strong presentation skills or public speaking experience.

Additional Details
