Function/Duties of Position

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, discovery, and patient care.

 

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at OHSU seeks a full-time, qualified academic Gynecologist with subspecialty training in Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology (PAG). In alignment with the strategic vision of the hospital, the preferred areas of clinical care, research and education will be focused on:

  1. Diagnosis and management of heavy and/or irregular menstrual bleeding due to anovulation or bleeding disorders; management of dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain, including endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction, and complex pain.
  2. Menstrual education and management, including menstrual suppression, for adolescent girls and young adults with developmental needs.
  3. Management of adolescents with PCOS/hyperandrogenism and other endocrinopathies.
  4. Care of patients with premature ovarian insufficiency including pubertal induction for patients with ovarian dysgenesis, Turner Syndrome and patients who have iatrogenic ovarian insufficiency due to cancer treatment.
  5. Diagnosis and management of pubertal disorders including precocious and delayed puberty, vulvar disorders, including lichen sclerosus, chronic vaginitis, vulvodynia.
  6. Management of benign adnexal cysts/masses including hemorrhagic cyst follow-up, paratubal cysts, teratomas, including surgical management as clinically indicated.
  7. Medical and surgical management of Mullerian anomalies including hymenal, vaginal, and uterine anomalies.
  8. Participate in team-approached management of gender-affirming care for adolescents.
  9. Confidential and comprehensive management of Contraception/STI screening/dyspareunia integrated with other care offered.
  10. Diagnosis and management of pediatric and adolescent vulvovaginal dermatologic and infectious disorders.
  11. Education of medical students and residents, both clinically as well as through didactics and hands-on simulation.

The successful candidate will have a clinical Gynecology practice focused on pediatric adolescent gynecology. Clinical responsibilities will include Gynecology outpatient clinics, surgical Gynecology and full participation in the Gynecology call pool. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the department’s educational responsibilities as well as clinical and research activities.

 

The Assistant Professor is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as an MD, with completion of an Ob/Gyn Residency, independent surgical experience necessary to provide a full-scope practice, and with demonstrated evidence and subspecialty training in Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology (PAG). The Assistant Professor is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The Assistant Professor shall provide inpatient and outpatient clinical services at OHSU and OHSU Health partner sites as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The Assistant Professor is expected to comply with all laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. 

Required Qualifications

1.  Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

Provide an outstanding level of clinical performance in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.  Responsibilities include:

  • Participation in the development and delivery of the group clinical practice at the Center for Women’s Health and OHSU Health partner sites
  • Maintain a fair-share of obstetrics and gynecology call, some of which will require on-site presence at OHSU and OHSU Health partner sites
  • Manage pediatric adolescent gynecology patients with benign gynecologic conditions INCLUDING intraoperative consultative services for general OB/GYN practitioners (when requested)

2.  Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

Like all OHSU faculty members, Assistant Professors are expected to have some scholarly activity, this may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Assistant Professor faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.

 

3.  Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught):

This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, and medical students participating in Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations. The Assistant Professor may also help with clinical teaching of nurse and APP trainees. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the outpatient clinic environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in obstetrics and gynecology.

 

4.  Administrative Activities:

This position is expected to aid in the development of a recognized provincial referral center for patients with pelvic pain including advanced surgical endometriosis management. As an OHSU faculty member this position would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level, and serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as requested by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.

 

5.  Position Conditions/Qualification:

The position requires an MD degree, Oregon licensure, and completion of an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency.  This position also requires the surgical experience necessary to perform a broad range of surgeries independently, and to instruct learners in surgery, as well as demonstrated evidence and subspecialty training in Pediatric Adolescent Gynecology (PAG). Applicants must have the potential for academic accomplishment; and be board-certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
