OREGON, Hood River and The Dalles. Oregon Health & Science University, (OHSU), is a leading health and research university that strives for excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. Casey Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology at OHSU is recruiting a full-time optometrist to work with our current group of faculty in Hood River and The Dalles.

 

This position will join an established and highly regarded University-based practice with clinical, research, and educational responsibilities, and will hold an academic appointment. It has a strong established referral base and an active surgical load. The group practice consists of 12 optometrists and 52 ophthalmologists offering sub-specialty services in cornea, vitreoretinal disease, ophthalmic pathology and oncology, uveitis and ocular immunology, glaucoma, oculoplastics, neuro-ophthalmology, low vision rehabilitation, and ophthalmic genetics.

Function/Duties of Position

Providing optometric eye care services and staffing support to General Ophthalmology and the Contact Lens Service at the Casey Eye Hood River and The Dalles satellite clinics. General Ophthalmology duties include support of general adult eye clinic. 

 

Professional education: assist with professional education events and courses presented by ophthalmologists, optometrists and other allied health professionals.

 

Administrative tasks: complete required documentation such as care report forms; maintain patient records.

  • Strong clinical and patient assessment skills.
  • Meticulous in all aspects of work.
  • Requires excellent organizational skills and strong communication and patient relations skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with employees at all levels of the organization is essential.
  • Demonstrated innovation, initiative, and creative problem-solving skills are imperative.
  • Must be proactive and detail-oriented.
  • The ability to work well independently and multi-task is critical.
  • The ability to plan and organize technical work and to adapt to a changing work environment is critical.
  • Must be able to assess and develop work tasks and systems in order to optimize clinic performance.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a Doctor of Optometry degree; current Oregon Optometry licensure.
