Department Overview

The OHSU Clinical Associate's practice will be based at Legacy health, and have privileges and limited clinical effort expected at the OHSU Hospital. The principal responsibility is to build a practice in interventional endoscopy within the Portland metro region. To formalize a collaborative relationship with NW Gastro private practice, Legacy Health surgery and medicine specialties, and legacy branch of the Knight Cancer Institute. The duties of this position include providing patient care in General Gastroenterology (ambulatory clinic upper/lower endoscopy and interventional GI (endoscopic ultrasound, ercp, and luminal stenting); call responsibilities will be specific to interventional endoscopy and in rotation with specialists at NW Gastro.

Function/Duties of Position

Clinical:

  • 3.5 days of clinic/clinic equivalents during non-service weeks. The outpatient responsibilities will be at the discretion of the Division Head and could be changed based on divisional needs. The following plan is proposed for 2023-2024.
    • 3 days per week at Legacy Health of interventional endoscopy procedures.
    • ½ day per week of ambulatory clinic.
  • GI Attending responsibilities.
    • 8-9 weeks of interventional service in rotation with NW Gastro specialist at Legacy Health.     
    • Night and weekend call - in rotation with specialist at NW Gastro.     

Scholarly and Research work:

  • Teaching of medical students, residents, Gl fellows during the course of the year.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent
  • Board certified in Gastroenterology.
  • Hold a valid Oregon medical license. 
  • Completed a course of advanced training in therapeutic endoscopy and be able to perform endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of high-risk lesions, ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with fine needle aspiration (FNA).
  • At least three years of experience following training in an ACGME accredited gastroenterology fellowship (or equivalent).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional 1 or 2-years training in an interventional (“Advanced”) endoscopy fellowship dedicated to the performance of pancreatobiliary procedures are preferred.
