Department Overview

This position is needed to perform Research and Lab manager responsibilities including maintaining IACUC and IBC protocols, maintaining BioRaft Chemical logs and training, maintaining retinal equipment such as the OCT, Micron IV, ERG, and OKT, ordering supplies, managing Research Assistants, volunteers, and multiple Ophthalmic Genetics research projects.

Function/Duties of Position

Managing Ophthalmic Genetic research projects and research assistants. This includes understanding the project goals, experiments that need to be completed and managing the research assistants to collect the required data.



Administration. This includes: ensuring Ophthalmic Genetics IACUC and IBC protocols are approved and current, updating the BioRaft chemical logs, ordering supplies, understanding lab finances, organizing the lab calendars, organizing lab meetings, etc.



Maintenance of equipment. This includes maintaining the following equipment, understanding how to use the equipment and being able to train new members of the lab how to use the equipment: OKT, OCT, Micron IV, and ERG system.



Data collection and data presentation. This is project dependent.

Required Qualifications

PhD in relevant field AND 1 year of relevant experience



OR Master's Degree in relevant field AND 5 years of relevant experience



OR Bachelor's Degree in relevant field AND 9 years of relevant experience



Efficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop. Communicates effectively in both written and oral formats.



Innovation and problem solving required.  Ability to mentor students, postdocs and research assistants. Demonstrated evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.  Ability to manage competing priorities.  Ability to meet deadlines and urgent system needs.  Ability to work independently; willingness to serve as a positive and professional role model.  Must have demonstrated record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance in past and present.

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework in statistics.



Experience handling small animals. Experience with Prism, ImageJ, and Illustrator.



Lab management experience.
