Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) supports safety and environmental responsibilities at OHSU. EHS programs focus on occupant and facility safety, regulatory compliance, and sustainable practices.
The team of safety professionals works to prevent accidents and injuries, minimize exposures to hazardous conditions and substances, reduce the institutional impact on the environment, provide regulatory compliance expertise, and promote an integrated culture of safety.
Services include policy management; training, education and outreach; hazardous waste collection; regulatory consultation; and establishing tools and services that allow the organization to recognize and address health and safety hazards. The programs are organized under general health and safety, fire safety, hazardous waste, biological safety, chemical safety, environmental protection, and radiation safety.
This position will work in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) with duties that encompass all missions of OHSU (Oregon Health & Science University). EHS oversees/manages programs and policies aimed at minimizing safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks to the OHSU community. EHS encompasses chemical, biosafety, fire/life safety, radiation safety, as well as general safety oversight across the university. Projects and/or responsibilities in other Facilities Program areas may also be assigned. Must meet all requirements of Oregon Administrative Rules 333-116-0640.
The Clinical Radiation Safety Officer is a highly specialized position required by state and federal Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). The person in this position manages the Clinical Radiation Safety Program at OHSU. This position functions as the Clinical Radiation Safety Officer (CRSO) for OHSU’s state issued broad scope human use radioactive materials license as well as consults on other clinically related radioactive material programs (e.g., non-ionizing radiation) for both direct patient care and studies involving human research subjects. The position also functions as the back up to the Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
In these capacities, the Clinical Radiation Safety Officer performs duties necessary to ensure the safe use of ionizing, non-ionizing, and laser radiation sources for human use throughout OHSU. This position is key to protection of the environment and OHSU community, including workforce members, visitors, patients, and human subjects, and oversight of regulatory compliance.
