Department Overview

The EPC (http://www.ohsu.edu/epc) conducts systematic reviews of health care topics for federal and state agencies, professional associations, and other organizations. These reviews report the evidence from clinical research studies and the quality of that evidence for use by clinicians, employers, policymakers, researchers, and others in making decisions about the provision of health care services and health research. The Center is one of 9 EPCs sponsored by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Function/Duties of Position

This position supports systematic review research and related projects for the Pacific Northwest Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) within the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, OHSU School of Medicine.

 

Responsibilities of the student worker position include: import and de-duplicate text files of electronic database search results; code and manage EndNote library citations; locate and photocopy journal articles in OHSU libraries; retrieve electronic copies of journal articles from the Internet; alphabetize journal articles; process interlibrary loan forms; format report bibliographies; format report contents, such as in-text tables; track report processes (e.g., prepare Excel spreadsheets of included studies); assist in preparation of team meeting materials; and perform other related tasks as needed. This is a great opportunity to learn more about health care research and systematic reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in an Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours), OR Graduate Program (minimum 4.5 credit hours).
  • Requires excellent computer skills, a keen attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to graduate students in public health, health sciences, nursing, sociology, or related programs.
  • Experience with research citation management software (EndNote) is preferred.
