Department Overview

The Research Data Warehouse Analyst/Informatician is critical for advancing both data discovery for translational research and overall research capability at OHSU. We are actively seeking a candidate with experience in healthcare data (such as: electronic health records, wearables, social determinants of health, among others) to fulfill the role of Informatician in our Research Data Warehouse (RDW) as part of the Informatics team.

 

Our team is expanding for the design and construct the next generation of Research Data Warehouse here at OHSU. The next generation RDW will support OHSU and the broader community to develop technologies for data retrieval, and enable applications in research data analysis such as machine learning and artificial intelligence applications for clinical research. For this critical role on the team, we are looking for an Informatician with experience in the following areas, but not limited to these: data quality, SQL, electronic health record data, relational data structures, and data analytics tools in the cloud such as Qlik with programming language interface.  Experience in a cloud computing environment such as AWS, Azure, distributed computing/high performance computing is preferred.

Function/Duties of Position

In this position you need the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with clinical researchers and data warehousing staff to translate scientific questions into database queries and result sets. The RDW Analyst/Informatician will be key personnel interacting with clinician scientists and translational researchers to determine data requirements needed to fulfill scientific research needs and ensure that data requests are in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Additional responsibilities include implementation of new data sources (e.g., wearables, social determinants of health) and structures into RDW, training clinicians in proper research data handling procedures and collaboratively interacting with researchers and staff. ETL knowledge and experience is a plus. Experience within an Oracle or MS SQL Server environment and candidates who have obtained a certification from Epic for Clarity, Caboodle, or other data oriented Epic certification are preferred. This position will supervise the RDW Analytics team.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Informatics or related field AND 3 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master's Degree in Informatics or related field AND 9 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Equivalent combination of Bachelor's in relevant field in conjunction with training and experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SQL
  • Experience in the techniques used for ensuring data quality
  • Experience in methods/application development for clinical application using programming languages (python, Matlab) and informatics techniques
  • Extremely organized self-starter with strong sense of priority, urgency, attention to detail, and commitment to deadlines
  • Superior communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation)
  • Ability to interact with investigators and data warehousing staff to translate broad scientific questions into database queries and result sets
  • Must be sufficiently adaptable to accept and perform in a timely and effective manner, work assignments that are outside the normal (day-to-day) routine
  • Work schedule is Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work
  • This position is eligible for remote work with the understanding that the employee may be asked to come into the office for critical in-person meetings which are arranged in advance with their manager and that they must be able to cover associated travel costs. Details regarding schedule, required technology, environment and other OHSU conditions are detailed in the remote work documentation filled out by the employee and manager and approved by the manager. The employee must be eligible for remote work by having satisfactory job performance and completed any hiring probation (if required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Informatics or related field
  • Experience with research design and data analysis
  • Experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server
  • Experience with BI tools
  • Knowledge and/or application of national health information standards
  • Experience with Epic Clarity and or Epic Caboodle Data Warehouse
  • Experience with on-premise and cloud technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop, Tensorflow)
