About OHSU

OHSU's singular focus on improving health starts with Oregonians and has global impact. We are the only academic health center in Oregon, but we're also nationally distinct as a university dedicated solely to advancing health sciences. This allows us to concentrate resources on research to prevent and cure disease, on education that prepares physicians, dentists, nurses and other health professionals to succeed in an evolving health care environment, and on patient care that incorporates the latest knowledge and discoveries. We have 16,000 employees and secure competitive research funding of more than $400 million a year. As a public organization, we provide community outreach and services for Oregon's most vulnerable populations. OHSU’s stated mission to improve the health and quality of life for all Oregonians through excellence, innovation and leadership in health care, education and research.

About OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

With a strong tradition of teamwork, diversity and interdisciplinary care, we believe all children deserve the best. At Doernbecher, we built a hospital around that belief. It’s why we have more specialists in children’s health than anywhere else in the state. We offer the newest and most advanced treatments available, along with innovative collaborations and research opportunities. As Oregon’s only academic health center, we strive to offer the best medical care to every child across Oregon, Southwest Washington and beyond.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Research.  The majority of your time and effort (minimum 0.8 FTE) will be dedicated to developing your laboratory research program relevant to pediatric cancers.  Your primary appointment will be within the Department of Pediatrics, Division of hematology oncology, and you will receive a secondary appointment in the Division of Oncological Sciences and become a member of the Knight Cancer Institute and as such you will participate in research activities within both divisions.  We expect you to apply for internal and external research funding after the start of your employment, and we expect you to maintain a minimum level of funding sufficient to cover half of your compensation by the start of your fifth year of employment.
  • Education.  OHSU is a teaching facility and you may be expected to teach graduate students, medical students, residents and fellows in the research setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year.  As your program grows and develops, you will also be expected to mentor graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. You will receive a secondary appointment in the Division of Oncological Sciences and become a member of the Knight Cancer Institute and as such you will participate in its educational activities.
  • Administration.  Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest.  There will be opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.  While these duties will be important as you are considered for promotion, we will make every effort to limit administrative duties during your first three years on faculty.
  • Clinical Activity.  For MD and MD/PhD only, clinical activity within the division of pediatric hematology/oncology may be assigned based on needs and your areas of expertise and interest, not to exceed 0.2 FTE effort.

Required Qualifications

  • M.D., M.D/D.O., MD/PhD, or PhD equivalent with research focus in pediatric oncology.
