This position provides the services of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for supporting safe medication practices for patients who utilize services in the ambulatory hospital at Center for Health and Healing Buildings 1 and 2, receive infusions in Doernbecher Children's Hospital and OHSU Rheumatology Infusion Center. The pharmacist is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of medications in inpatients and outpatients who range in age from neonates, infants less than one year of age, children and adolescents ages 10-18, adults ages 19-65 and the elderly over age 65.
This position is to function at higher decision making and accountability levels regarding medication therapy, proactively affecting medication use by making recommendations at the time prescribing decisions are being made or, in some cases, making independent decisions about medication therapy in cooperation with other healthcare team members. Additional services provided include facilitatation of medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and medication delivery through coordination of care from admission to discharge. The pharmacist must possess strong communication skills for patient education and work collaboratively with inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary teams including but not limited to providers, nurses, case workers, pharmacists, and technicians, as well as, the teaching and precepting component of students, interns and/or residents.
This is a flexible model where coordination of care for the patient as he/she transitions from one aspect of the medication use system to another is integrated with traditionally centralized functions, such as order entry/verification. This coordinated care model will continue to evolve as part of an integrated decentralized patient care practice.

The non-OHSU student worker will receive training in procedures common to a biohazard immunology research lab, and assist the sponsoring group by helping with paperwork, organizing, cleaning, data analysis, simple laboratory tasks. Billing & Collections Management: Clear 333 and 975 work queues daily and resolve any billing problems or issues that may be responsible for transaction backlog. Manages departmental referral/authorization personnel and processes across the faculty practice sites to maximize the number of patient encounters that have proper referrals and authorizations. Answers questions from all department personnel regarding authorizations, coding, documentation and self-pay policies. Collaborates with UMG business partner and departmental leadership to develop and communicate action plans for resolving billing issues. Develops and implements policies and procedures that optimize and streamlines revenues. Trains staff and faculty in best practices.
Assists Clinical Director with managing grants and tracking grant finances, as assigned. Also assists IPP leadership with grant proposals, including budgets and coordinating movement of grant proposals through OPAM and appropriate DoP grant staff. Provides support to the Primary Investigator and Clinical Director with the IPP/TTCO (Torture Treatment Center of Oregon) in facilitation of required report documentation to ensure compliance with ORR (Office of Refugee and Resettlement) grant and meet all required timelines as outlined in grant.
Regulatory Compliance: Oversees compliance in Intercultural Psychiatry Program with all regulatory agencies, ensures HIPAA compliance, and satisfies hospital and any other regulatory body requirements; act as liaison between faculty and staff and the department and hospital. Audits faculty and residents for medical records compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. Reports back regularly to department leadership on all operations and compliance issues. Coordinates training of faculty, residents and staff in appropriate protocols and documentation and coding of services that generate billing. Works with coders on developing and implementing strategies to correct issues identified in internal audits.
Operations & General Management: Oversee clinical operations and provide direct supervision, leadership, expert guidance, and training to those engaged in operational activities, facilitating efficient operations and clear protocols and procedures. Utilization of Oracle, Epic, Cognos, Cars, BOBJ, etc. to run reports, maintain records and submit, approve and/or audit transactions. Attend all Division, clinic, department, and organizational management and operations meetings. Represent the department in practice optimization and other process improvement meetings. Ensure implementation and alignment of all processes related to practice optimization, process improvement, and quality improvement within the clinic in accordance with OHSU standardized guidelines. OHSU is a Level 1 Trauma Center with a vast variety of medical and surgical specialties. RN Case Managers work at the top of their license with admin delegation support and OHSU has a robust team. There are UM Case Managers who support initial and concurrent reviews. There are also unique Case Management support roles such as Mission Control that oversees patient transfers.
Transitional Care and Post-Acute Care programs.
RN Care Managers assess each patient on admission for available family support, insurance resources, and potential discharge planning needs. They use established criteria to determine appropriateness of admission and continuing stay and work with insurance companies to assure on going authorization for continued stay and post hospital needs. Daily care coordination rounds occur on each nursing unit Monday through Friday at which Case Managers meet various disciplines to discuss the plan for the day and the plan for the patients stay. They will also frequently lead and/or be involved in multidisciplinary care conferences with family involving complicated care situations.
RN Case Managers are responsible to be aware of and comply with regulatory requirements of DNV, Medicaid, Medicare and Oregon Nurse Practice Act.
The primary focus of this position is the assessment of older adults to provide data for various research projects. These assessments include neurocognitive evaluations, questionnaires, medical history, and functional assessments of daily activities. These assessments can occur in a participant’s home, in –clinics at OHSU, or virtually. Additional duties related to the implementation of research trials include, but are not limited to: assisting with participant recruitment, determining study eligibility for research volunteers, obtaining informed consent, and facilitating study enrollment; participating in regulatory compliance; entering data; collecting and mailing saliva specimens; assisting with training other staff members.
Research participants are older adults, so the ability to interact patiently and respectfully with elderly volunteers is essential. This position requires initiative and independent performance of complex and detail-oriented duties while working closely with investigators and other study staff. Imaging:
- Provides quality real time 2D, 3D, M Mode and doppler applications to acquire images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of equipment.
- Documents and demonstrates knowledge and skill to evaluate normal /abnormal anatomy and any related pathologies for presentation to Radiologist.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in ultrasound physics.
- Exercises responsible judgment in recognizing and reporting significant situations relating to patient care.
- Performs portable procedures when needed.
- Prepares and instructs the patient for the diagnostic study using age appropriate communication skills.
- Optimizes each image during the examination to obtain the highest quality study with the least discomfort to the patient.
- Must be able to perform all ranges of exams after completion of technical competencies.
- Assists the physician in invasive and/or specialized procedures, such as amniocentesis, needle biopsy, localizations, and tumor masses, as directed.
- Continues to stay current in regards to new US technology hardware and software upgrades.
Documentation:
- Verifies complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service to customers.
- Verifies and initials orders in patient chart, Responsible for correctly identify patients by complying with Imaging dept. Patient Identification Policy.
- Labels images completely with patient demographics, position or other required documentation.
- Follows through with all aspects of scanning duties in order to provide efficient and timely completion of examinations with correct data entry, begin and complete with correct billing and verification that images are in PACS.
Personal & Patient Care and Safety:
- Provides for personal and patient care and safety using professional judgement in accordance with written standards to avoid injury to self and others.
- Responsible to adhere to all established JCAHO National Patient Safety Goals, and report errors or unsafe conditions to supervisor and the OHSU Event Reporting (Patient Safety Net).
- Follows universal precautions for blood and body fluids, protecting patients and staff.
Works in a safe manner by maintaining a clean work environment.
- Identifies and reports any issues for ergonomic improvement to supervisor.
Reports injuries to supervisor.
Effective use of resources:
- Assists in scheduling examinations and assists the receptionist in planning work schedules.
- Utilize the VIP patient transportation system to arrange for patient delivery, and call for lift team if assistance is needed.
- Assists with moving or transporting patients if needed.
- Participates in clinical research studies.
- Participates in teaching technical and clinical skills to sonography students and radiology residents.
Keeps equipment and work areas neat and clean.
- Maintains adequate par levels of all supplies.
- Performs quality control on diagnostic equipment and maintains a logbook for weekly entries as needed.
