Function/Duties of Position

Add complexity and variety to your nursing career on OHSU’s Ambulatory Oncology Navigation team. You will engage with patients over the phone before their first consult with the oncology specialty physician and in clinic at their first appointment.

Support new oncology patients and ease their anxiety in preparation for their first appointment:

 

You will call patients before the first oncology appointment and may meet them in clinic at the appointment. Specifically you will engage with patients to:

 

  • Prepare patients for the first consult
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary appointments as needed
  • Outline anticipated next steps for the patient and family
  • Identify and address barriers to care
  • Support them through initial transitions of care

 

You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a supportive team of health care professionals. You will navigate 30-40 new patients per month. You will enjoy unmatched opportunities to learn and be inspired at Oregon’s only public academic health center.

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of related clinical experience in adult or pediatric oncology
  • Demonstrated professionalism
  • Excellent communication and reflection skills
  • The ability to:
    • Work collaboratively on a team
    • Provide and receive feedback and delegate
    • Prioritize and adapt in stressful situations
  • Unencumbered Oregon State Board of Nursing RN license
  • External candidates: bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent ambulatory care oncology experience, in care coordination.
  • Internal candidates: Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Certified in oncology (Oncology Certified Nurse – OCN)
  • Experience with leadership, projects, or participation in shared governance
