Department Overview

OHSU Specialty Pediatric Float Pool nurses provide high-quality, innovative and compassionate family-centered nursing care. Pediatric Float Pool nurses support pediatric acute and critical care units (in some cases also Mother-Baby, pediatric Emergency Department, and pediatric PACU).  Pediatric Float Pool nurses support these units for selected planned and unplanned absences and for other staffing deficits.

 

The Transition to Practice (TTP) Residency Program is designed for New Graduate RN’s or nurses with less than one year experience.

 

  • This role is subject to a collective bargaining agreement with the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA).  
    • We are hiring multiple positions. The positions will be distributed based on the current amount of knowledge and skills of the other nurses in the unit/departments.  
  • FTE: 0.9, Full Time
  • Shift: Night Shift
  • Shift Length:  12 Hours 
  • Start and Stop Times: 1900-0730
    • Weekend Obligation: every other weekend 
    • Call Obligation: no call obligation
    • Holiday: 1 summer holiday and 1 winter holiday per calendar year, rotating per unit standard procedure
  • Salary: Hourly rate based on ONA contract
  • Leave: Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.  
    • External Candidates: Vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests up to 18-weeks from the start date are not permitted. All other vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU.
    • Internal Nurse Candidates: All vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU. Pre-scheduled vacations or leave plans must be disclosed before consideration for hire to determine the start date.

OHSU Specialty Pediatric Float Pool nurses provide high-quality, innovative and compassionate family- centered nursing care.  Pediatric Float Pool nurses support pediatric acute and critical care units.  Pediatric Float Pool nurses support these units for selected planned and unplanned absences and for other staffing deficits.  Organizational staffing needs and individual nurse’s prior competency and request for expanded clinical specialty knowledge and skills will be considered for floating to Mother-Baby, pediatric Emergency Department, and pediatric PACU.

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements for all Nurses:

  • Review the RN Role Description on the TTP Program webpage.
  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).  
  • BSN preferred 
  • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before the start date.
  • Current BLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA by the start date.
  • BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application).
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Department Specific Requirements:

  • Review the Department Specific Requirements on the TTP Program webpage.
  • PALS and NRP certifications
  • BLS must not expire during the TTP Program.
  • A minimum score of 11/18 on OHSU Nurse Interview Evaluation Tool.
  • Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.
    • External Candidates: Vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests up to X-weeks from the start date are not permitted. All other vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU.
    • Internal Nurse Candidates: All vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU. Pre-scheduled vacations or leave plans must be disclosed prior to consideration for hire to determine the start date.

Transition to Practice (TTP) Residency Program Individualized Schedule of 10-14 weeks:

  • Spring Cohort Start Date: June 12, 2023 (External Hires and transfers new to ONA) and June 19, 2023 (Internal ONA transfers). Note that this date may be adjusted based on operational needs.  
  • Group-based, self-directed, and preceptorship shifts are integrated weekly for up to 40 hours per week.
    • Group-based courses: Monday-Friday 0800-1700 (8-hour blocks)or 1300-1700 (4-hour blocks).   
    • Self-directed shifts: Monday-Sunday all-hours up to 12-hours a week.
    • Preceptorship shifts: Assigned based on preceptor team schedules during Monday-Sunday 0700-1930, 1900-0730, 0700-1530, 1500-2330, or 1900-0330. 
    • Transition to hired shift may be delayed for a temporary reassignment due to individual development needs and skill mix of the employees on the unit or the hires shift at any given time.
