Department Overview

This position is responsible for providing technological and administrative support to the OHSU Simulation Program with a focus on clinical skills training of healthcare professionals. This position works in the OHSU Simulation Center in the Robertson Life Sciences Building, which is a 20,000 square foot facility. This position is responsible for collaborating with OHSU Simulation Operations teams across OHSU and its partner institutions. This position partners directly with OHSU faculty, facilitating clinical skills labs, supporting the overall operations of the 7 simulation theaters, using web¿based evaluation tools such as BLINE, and assisting with the use of A/V equipment evaluation. The center provides services for all of the educational and hospital programs at OHSU. This includes the Undergraduate Medical Education programs in which skills for the following are completed: administers MMI’s, OSCE’s, CPX’s, Physical Exam’s, IPE training and all other standardized clinical teaching and simulation experiences within the four-year medical school curriculum. In our interprofessional facility this position is also instrumental in the integration of Advanced Practice Nursing, Undergraduate Nursing and other programs that are integrating standardized patients, simulation and the BLINE technologies. This position will work in collaboration with other simulation users across the university and hospital departments including Medicine, Physician’s Assistant, Nursing and Dental Programs, Pharmacy at OHSU along with outside entities that are interested in utilizing the space for a fee. 

Function/Duties of Position

Skills Lab Support

  • Partners with skills lab coordinator and the skills team.
  • Prepares and facilitates skills lab sessions in MRISC.
  • Recommends needed supply orders and partners with Administrative Assistant & skills lab coordinator for receiving of supplies needed.
  • Provides day-of direct user support during clinical skills lab events.
  • Develops understanding and familiarity with medical terminology, equipment, supplies, objectives, and procedures needed to facilitate clinical skills events.
  • Locates and manages medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of clinical skills activities (e.g. pharmacy drugs, dressings).
  • Collaborates with other program technicians with preparation and logistics for each standardized clinical skills training experience.
  • Ensures sign in forms and evaluation tools are ready and data collection is up to date in events logs.
  • Collaborates with OHSU Sim team to provide expertise.

Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer Support

  • Operates and Maintains Medical Equipment (i.e. life¿support systems, physiologic monitors, ultrasound machines, and IV pump systems) and clinical task trainers. 
  • Partners with faculty with troubleshooting medical technologies during skills events.
  • Provides user orientation and support for Medical Equipment and Clinical Task
  • Trainers including low/mid fidelity simpad run manikins.
  • Maintains Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers Inventory.
  • Provides consultation on new purchases of Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainers and simulation tools.
  • Collaborates with vendors to borrow additional manikins, task trainers, etc. to meet course objectives.
  • Oversees equipment loan process for OHSU Simulation in partnership with the entire Sim Ops Specialist team.
  • Collaborates with hospital departments to borrow additional equipment for simulation center activities including transportation and servicing as appropriate.
  • Coordinates outgoing and processes incoming Medical Equipment and Clinical Task Trainer equipment loans for OHSU training events.

Audio Visual Equipment Support

  • Operates Debrief Room and Classroom A/V technology such as the classroom projectors, speakers, and Crestron A/V switcher devices.
  • Provides user orientation and support for the A/V technology.
  • Level 1 Triage of Debrief Room and Classroom A/V technology

B-Line

  • Develops familiarity with both A/V technology and recording software (B-Line Medical).
  • Records skills events using resident A/V technology and B-Line Medical.
  • Provides user orientation and support for B-Line Medical.
  • Level 1 Triage of B-Line sessions and debriefing. 
     

Required Qualifications

  • Three years of experience administering or coordinating parts or subsets of a project or program.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a field directly related to the position will substitute for two years of the required experience.
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting A/V equipment.
  • Experience working with web-based computer technology.
  • Experience working with multimedia service and support with direct customer contact.
  • Experience working with higher education faculty & professional students.
  • Experiences with collaborating with multiple departments and coordination of meetings. 
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with healthcare professional students.
  • Experience working with simulation web-based computer technology.
  • Experience working with medical education faculty & students.
