OHSU is where healing, teaching and discovery come together. Magnet-designated OHSU is Oregon's only academic health center,  and the OHSU Brain Institute is the first Joint Commission-designated Comprehensive Stroke Center in the Pacific Northwest.

 

The nurses of the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) provide patient and family centered care to the patient populations of neurosurgery, neuro-medical and stroke including: subarachnoid hemorrhage, cerebrovascular aneurysms, microvascular decompression, cerebrovascular thrombosis, intraparenchymal hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, tumor resection, myasthenic crisis, aneurysm clipping, coiling, and stents.

Function/Duties of Position

Up to $10,000 Hiring Bonus. Up to $6000 in Relocation also Available. 

 

Join us! Our 17-bed ICU has immediate access to 24-hour CT and MRI services, OR and interventional radiology suites to enable rapid access to care. Our typical cases include complex neurosurgery, ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, neuromuscular disorders and epilepsy (among others). The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN’s care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. Required Qualifications

  • 1-year of current Critical Care experience
  • Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
  • BSN preferred
  • Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • Unencumbered criminal background check
  • Both BLS/ACLS must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
  • Both BLS/ACLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
  • Must have excellent communication and reflection skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team, and the flexibility to delegate, prioritize, and adapt in stressful situations
  • Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Able to lift 35 lbs. independently. Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel
  • Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids

Preferred Qualifications

  • Neurosciences experience
  • CCRN or CNRN

Additional Details

ORIENTATION:

  • Specialty experience: 2-4 weeks
  • Experience, but not in specialty area: 4-6 weeks
