Function/Duties of Position

The Predoctoral Program Director Endodontology is a full-time faculty member in the Department of Endodontology with all rights and responsibilities of School of Dentistry faculty. This faculty appointee provides services in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. Specifically, the primary focus of the Predoctoral Program Director is to provide academic leadership, management, and oversight for the Predoctoral endodontic academic curriculum in collaboration with the Office of Academic Systems.  The Program Director works collaboratively with the Division Head, the Predoctoral Clinical Site Director, and the Offices of Academic and Clinical Systems to provide endodontic academic and clinical experiences for Predoctoral Dental Students as they gain competence appropriate for a beginning dental practitioner.  The Program Director is responsible for the design and implementation of the academic endodontic curriculum under the direction of the Office of Academic Systems. The Program Director engages in program and process improvement and ensures compliance to the policies and procedures of the School of Dentistry (SOD), Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA), and the Northwest Commission of Colleges and University (NWCCU).

The faculty member is eligible to practice endodontic privately in the OHSU SOD Faculty Practice.

 

This position reports to (supervisor):  Division Head, Endodontology; Karan J. Replogle, Acting Chair Endodontology

 

Position Duties:

  • Definition, documentation, and reporting of Clinical Skills Assessment (CSAs) in collaboration with the Predoctoral Clinical Site Director
  • Collobaration with Predoc Clinical Site Director and Division Head regarding case completion guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Recruitment, retention, calibration and oversight of faculty providing content and serving as Course Directors in the Predoctoral Curriculum
  • Design and implementation of the academic endodontic curriculum under the direction of the Office of Academic Systems
  • Serve on SOD Committees as assigned, especially the Curriculum Committee
  • Lead in outcome assessment and outcome assessment tools such as EPAs
  • Collaborate with Predoc Clinical Site Director on the distribution and coordination of cases for DS3 and DS4
  • Contribute to curriculum mapping of endodontic experiences for DS2 or DS1
  • Build relationships within the Predoctoral Program Directors and others build a culture of success, belonging and synergy that furthers the mission of the SOD
  • Establish rapport with public and private clients to grow the referral base for the Program and enhance the resources available
  • Recommend, establish, and ensure compliance with administrative controls and process improvements that increase efficiency, performance, and outcomes
  • Develop and monitor key performance metrics for the academic program
  • Prepare reporting for the OHSU, CODA and NWCCU program review
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures of the SOD, CODA and NWCCU
  • Participate in research and oversee and mentor research of Predoctoral dental students with an interest in endodontics or endodontic patient care delivery
  • Introduce new and innovative academic technologies, teaching techniques and modalities

Required Qualifications

  • D.D.S. or D.M.D. from a CODA accredited school or equivalent
  • Completion of advanced education program in Endodontics from a CODA accredited program
  • Board Certification in Endodontics (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Oregon Dental License or a Faculty License
  • Nitrous oxide or minimal sedation certification preferred
  • Experience in teaching, research, service, patient care, and academic management, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills are preferred
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification
