Department Overview

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) provides patient and family centered care to the patient populations that include complex cardiac and vascular patient as well as specialty surgery patients, including advanced heart failure, cardiology, CABG, heart valve replacement, adult congenital heart population, ventricular assist device (VAD), heart transplantation, vascular surgery, ENT, plastics, ortho, OB-GYN, and urology.

 

Wage Range: $18.00 - 23.90 per hour

Function/Duties of Position

The Intensive Care Unit technician (ICU Tech) position is part of the healthcare team in the Adult Critical Care Cluster. The ICU tech performs tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and as directed by the department nurse manager. The ICU tech will provide assistance in the maintenance of supplies pertaining to the ICU, and will assist with quality assurance activities for the ICU. This individual has the ability to communicate data reflective of the patients’ status and delegated tasks to the RN or LIP in charge of patient care. The ICU tech assists the patient, patients’ families, visitors, nursing staff, and other support staff to assure the delivery of quality care in a safe and comfortable environment. ICU Techs contribute to the success of the department and support of team members.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS certification upon hire, issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA
  • One-year recent experience (within the past 5 years) providing patient care, in an ICU or similar setting
  • One year of OHSU Lift Team experience in the ICU setting will qualify as patient care
  • 12-lead EKG placement through EKG department
  • CBG QC compliance through POC department
  • Rehab training through OHSU PT department
