Department Overview

The laboratory of Dr. John E. Bayouth, Professor of Radiation Medicine and Director of Physics at Oregon Health & Science University, seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to work on characterizing radiation induced lung injury following radiation therapy for lung cancer. The primary goal of this position is to support research needed to reduce pulmonary toxicity for patients receiving radiation therapy for treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We aim to reduce both acute toxicity (e.g., pneumonitis) and chronic toxicities (e.g. fibrosis).

The Postdoctoral Scholar will work collaboratively with Dr. Bayouth to develop research directions and will independently drive project aims. The ideal candidate will have experience working with imaging processing software, radiation dose-response models, radiation therapy treatment planning, 4DCT data acquisition, and correlation of radiation dose with changes in pulmonary airways. We seek a creative and pioneering individual interested in applying a multidisciplinary approach to their work, and capable of developing and incorporating cutting-edge software tools. The candidate should also be a team-player with interest in collaborative work and mentorship of junior personnel.

The candidate should have no more than 1 year of postdoctoral experience and will be expected to compete for internal and external funding. Applicants should upload a cover letter describing your relevant qualifications, future interests, and expected start date; CV; and names and contact information for three references.
