Department Overview

The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories (KDL) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are seeking a senior scientist with expertise in molecular diagnostics and a proven track record and at least 5 years experience in clinical laboratory management. The position will include membership in the Knight Cancer Institute and a faculty appointment in an OHSU School of Medicine Department at the Associate or Full Professor level, depending on qualifications. The appointee shall play an important role in helping to lead the KDL and the Knight Biolibrary, in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories (KDL) are CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited and operate as an independent non-profit division within the Knight Cancer Institute serving all patients. Specializing in oncology, cancer genomics and rare diseases, KDL processes approximately 23,000 tests per year. Areas of specialization include next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, array-based chromosomal and methylation analyses, immune receptor sequencing, minimal residual disease monitoring, post-transplant chimerism analyses, optical genome mapping and FISH. In addition, the Labs offer custom proteomic analyses, as well as high sensitivity assays for serum cytokines and interleukins.

Under the leadership of Dr. Brian Druker, the Knight Cancer Institute is pioneering novel approaches to precision oncology, and the KDL play a pivotal role in this effort. The Labs operate in a fully integrated manner with the Biolibrary and the Histopathology Shared Resource (both CAP-accredited) to provide optimized collection, accessioning, tracking, processing and analysis of clinical trial biospecimens. In addition, KDL offer CRO-type services to outside academic and commercial enterprises, thereby playing an important role in the development and clinical adoption of novel molecular diagnostic tests. To supplement the testing menu, the Labs collaborate with the Knight Cancer Institute’s Immune Monitoring Operations (IMCO) to offer a full suite of research level immunological and other assays for cancer diagnosis, management, and monitoring.

Function/Duties of Position

This position will be responsible for the test menu offered by the Labs, ensuring that this menu remains not only up to date, but at the leading edge of molecular diagnostics for patients with cancer. The position includes substantial administrative responsibilities, including oversight of quality management, staffing, budget planning, development of new biomarkers and related tests, faculty development, client satisfaction, and participating in molecular tumor boards and providing input into our Precision Oncology program. In addition, the position will collaborate with leaders to further develop clinical and/or translational research, and contribute to the education of residents and fellows.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have 5 years post fellowship experience with management experience.
