Oregon Health & Science University is a nationally prominent research university and Oregon's only public academic health center. As a major regional referral center, OHSU has a varied and challenging caseload. The surgical pathology lab processes over 43,000 surgical specimens per year. The Department of Pathology has a collegial faculty, AP/CP residency program, a post-sophomore fellowship program, and five post-graduate fellowship programs. We are supported by excellent molecular genetic laboratories and a state-of-the-art core laboratory. OHSU offers a variety of collaborative research opportunities and is home to the Knight Cancer Institute, an international leader in research and cancer treatment.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory medicine at the Oregon health and Science seeks applications from biomedical scientists or physician-scientists to fill a research-focused tenure-track faculty position. Primary responsibility will be to develop and sustain extramural funded research program and participate in research training and education. Service responsibilities include participation in committees and councils of OHSU; outreach and public service programs and professional societies. This position does not include clinical service coverage.

 

Candidates with MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degrees are eligible.

 

This position is under the overall supervision of the Department Chair. The appointee shall provide services, as assigned by the supervisor, in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

 

The primary duties of this position include:

• Contribute to overall research mission in the Department of Pathology and School of Medicine
• Carry out independent and funded research in the field of cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and age-related disease, design appropriate studies, perform those experiments, collect and analyze data and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication.
• Write and submit grant proposals to external agencies to expand the existing research programs and develop new fundable research programs.
• Collaborate with other investigators in the field.
• Research mentoring and teaching to graduate students, postdocs, research staff and visiting scholars.
• Didactic teaching in the pre-doctoral and graduate level, including course direction and lectures.
• Service responsibilities include participation in committees and councils of OHSU, outreach and public service programs and professional societies.

• Must have completed advanced education (PhD, MD or MD/PhD) in a basic science specialty with a minimum 3 years of postdoctoral training in biomedical research.
• Track record of externally funded research and training activities, and maintaining an active research portfolio
• Expertise in translational research using animal models and human subjects

• Track record of collaborations with desirable experts in their research programs
• Previous teaching and research service experience and expertise in teaching, assessment of student learning, and program evaluation
