Department Overview

The OHSU Division of Infectious Diseases is a group of academic physicians, allied health professionals and nurse practitioners specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases and related disorders. The Division is a leader in clinical medicine, research and education, with a focus on providing outstanding patient care and growth opportunities for all faculty and staff.

Function/Duties of Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is expected to support and complement physician care of Infectious Diseases patients in a variety of settings, including the outpatient and inpatient realms. The position includes outpatient clinic at OHSU sites and inpatient clinical service at OHSU hospital.  The outpatient and inpatient responsibilities are under the direct or indirect supervision as warranted with the opportunity for further independent practice based on performance.

 

  1. Clinical. The primary duties include direct inpatient and outpatient consultative patient care, and Video-based consultation coverage for OHSU’s Hospital at Home program. Inpatient and outpatient clinical activities will be scheduled so as not to overlap on the same day
  1. Education. This position participates in the division’s teaching activities, including divisional conferences, student and fellow didactics and on OHSU committees as expected and approved by the Division and Department.
  1. Administration. Administrative and other duties may be assigned based on department needs and your areas of expertise and interest, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and to serve on institutional committees.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role.
  • Current licensure as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s).
  • A qualified candidate must be a certified Nurse Practitioner or certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Current Oregon NP or PA license prior to start date.
  • The APP must complete the credentialing process and be approved by the OHSU Professional Board to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting.
  • The APP must be registered with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and be authorized to prescribe medications according to the Oregon State Board of Nursing Formulary for Nurse Practitioners or the Oregon Medical Board Physician Assistant Practice Description.
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description.
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience in the field of Infectious Diseases
  • Full-Time employment preferred, but will consider those interested in Part-Time.
