The Department of Urology at OHSU is seeking world-class medical professionals to join it's impressive team. Faculty members are recognized leaders in their fields, have advanced fellowship training in urological subspecialties, and are expert, high-volume surgeons. Specialized training includes urologic oncology, kidney stone disease, reconstructive urology, gender affirmation, pelvic floor medicine, pediatric urology and male infertility. The one-year Men's Health and Fertility Urology Fellowship is located in the Department of Urology. The appointee shall provide services in the Department of Urology as assigned by the fellowship director. This will include ambulatory clinical practice and surgical practice in any of the OHSU or partner operating rooms. The fellow will develop a thorough understanding of the evaluation and management of Men's Health and Fertility-related urologic conditions. Fellows will spend their time with different faculty performing men’s health and fertility-related care. How this exposure is balanced will depend on fellow interest, previous exposure in prior training, surgical skill, as well as clinical demand. Exposure to other urologic surgeries is important for a well-rounded training experience and to gain greater insight and knowledge about men’s health and fertility principles. An average of 2-3 days per week will be spent in an outpatient clinical setting/research/administrative time. As this field is very collaborative with other specialties, fellows will have extensive exposure to other disciplines. Fellows will be expected to attend all meetings of the OHSU Urology department for faculty. Fellows will attend and be expected to present research and clinical teaching presentations at national and international meetings. Fellows may be asked to give teaching presentations within OHSU and locally, as well. Fellows will act as a point of contact for residents in the residents' management of patient care. This may include rounding on weekends at times.

 

As board-eligible and licensed urologists, Fellows will take call as OHSU faculty at a frequency consistent with other OHSU Urology faculty and be responsible for clinical care as a result of those duties. Fellows may also be called upon to periodically staff patient consults seen and worked-up by the residents. This is important in developing autonomy needed for future practice, as well as financial support of the fellowship position.

 

Outstanding level of professional performance expected. Professional performance is delivered in a manner that is compliant with the regulation and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies (i.e. DNV, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, OHSU IRB, NIH and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines.) Treats all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.

 

Academics: Fellow may be involved in teaching support staff in their area of professional expertise. Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility. Must be knowledgeable of and compliant with all applicable regulating bodies (e.g. ACGME competencies for clinical faculty, NIH guidelines for research faculty).

 

Research: May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding for the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. May engage in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair. Must have satisfactory record of accomplishments in scholarship and service.

• Doctorate in medicine (MD) or equivalent; Board certified/board-eligible Urologist.

• Current license and certification with the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners, Drug Enforcement Association certification, and CPR/PALS certification required.
