Department Overview

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Function/Duties of Position

The Electrophysiology (EP) Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA-C) works collaboratively with the EP physicians, residents, fellows, as well as support staff in the hospital and EP procedural space under the clinical supervision of the Chief of Electrophysiology.

 

Clinical: 100% of your time will be spent providing clinical support in the Electrophysiology inpatient service. Duties include the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with arrhythmias and heart rhythm related disorders, including atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, and patients with cardiac rhythm devices. Support for outpatient services may be added depending on clinical need.

 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluation and management of patients with heart rhythm disorders
  • Management of patients pre, peri and post EP procedures
  • First assist in EP procedures
  • Assisting in generation of order sets and other tools to facilitate EP best practices
  • Management of patients with pacemakers and ICDs, including interrogation and programming
  • Management and monitoring of patients with pacemakers and ICDs undergoing clinically indicated MRI scans
  • Performing cardioversions and drug challenges independently
  • Providing sub-specialty feedback and clinical direction to residents, fellows, and inpatient staff to improve clinical and technical knowledge and serve as a mentor to students and junior staff members
  • Communicating effectively with a wide variety of team members (faculty/physicians, APPs, RN, MA, researchers), members of KCVI and other care providers and coordinators to provide excellent team-based care

Education: OHSU is a teaching institution and as a faculty member, you are expected to provide mentorship and direction to students, residents, fellows and staff. The Graduate Program Director will provide any official assignments..

 

Administrative: Administrative duties may be assigned to you in support of Institute or section initiatives, faculty development and/or other activities as determined necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • ACLS and BLS certification required

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon
  • State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
  • ACNP, AGACNP required to provide inpatient services
  • Membership in professional nursing organization preferred

Physician Assistant:

  • Current & Active Physician Assistant license for State of Oregon
  • DEA certificate
  • Membership in professional organization preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years prior experience as an APP in Cardiovascular Medicine
  • Experience with Epic EMR
  • Experience in an academic medical center
  • Highly qualified candidates will have prior experience in electrophysiology and/or pacemaker and ICD interrogation and management.
