OHSU Simulation is at the heart of OHSU's education, clinical training, and patient safety practices with over 60,000 learner encounters each year. OHSU Simulation aims to advance excellence in inter-professional patient care through innovative, simulation-based education, training and research. OHSU's simulation programs and centers provide targeted trainings with six different types of models: Task Trainer Simulation, Manikin-based Simulation, Standardized Patient Simulation, Virtual Reality Simulation, In Situ Simulation, and Tissue-based Simulation. OHSU's simulation venues provide a range of capacities that support training across OHSU curricula and advanced professional training. The three Portland simulation venues encompass ~40,000 square feet of simulation space, and centralize/coordinate simulation training for programs across OHSU and for continuing education and specialty training across the state. In addition to the three Portland sites, OHSU Simulation also oversees the Collaborative Health Center (CHC) in Klamath Falls and partners closely with the School of Nursing (SoN) Simulation and Clinical Learning Centers (SCLCs) located at each of its four regional campuses across Oregon.
The Executive Director, OHSU Simulation, is responsible for the operational and fiscal oversight of OHSU Simulation in the execution of its activities in support of the institution’s goals. This includes direct oversight of the Operations Directors to ensure performance excellence and continuous quality improvement in the programs they oversee. The Executive Director also collaborates with the Medical Director of OHSU Simulation, and facilitates the OHSU Simulation Steering Committee (SCC) to ensure that appropriate funding, programming and resources are available to support and facilitate the education, training, and research needs of the University and statewide partners. A key role of the Executive Director is to develop and implement a business and operational model that supports the growing needs of OHSU and expands the partnerships with external entities to utilize the unique resources of OHSU Simulation. With adequate resources there will be opportunities to explore additional revenues and partnerships with industry partners and local collaborations. In partnership with the Medical Director and the Operations Directors, the Executive Director will promote the utilization of simulation at OHSU and continue to expand the regional, national and global reputation of OHSU Simulation. Adequate resources and a sound business model will allow OHSU Simulation to make its mark as a leader in simulation-based education (SBE) for healthcare professional training locally and beyond.
