The Department of Urology at OHSU provides care and treatment for all urologic conditions by nationally recognized physicians, many of whom has additional fellowship training in their respective field of expertise. We offer comprehensive treatment programs for everything from urologic cancers to kidney stones to medical services for male fertility. This General Urology Advanced Practice Provider position is located in the Urology practice at Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) in Hillsboro, OR. HMC is an OHSU Health Partner that provides comprehensive healthcare services to Hillsboro and surrounding communities. The clinic comprises physicians, an APP and a clinical team who treat the spectrum of urologic conditions. The appointee will work with members of the OHSU Department of Urology faculty to provide urologic services to patients in an OHSU Urology practice on the Hillsboro Medical Center campus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the background, focus, and drive to excel, as well as the ability to provide excellent clinical care to patients in a community setting. Candidates will be trained and become experienced in management of patients with urologic conditions. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide care in a community practice with an affiliation to the state’s only academic medical center.
The position will include support of outpatient, inpatient and intraoperative patients. The appointee will work in conjunction with surgical faculty to provide care for patients in an outpatient office setting as well as supporting inpatient care for post-operative patients. The appointee will also be trained to provide surgical assistance on urologic cases in the operating room. The remainder of this position’s responsibilities are medical record documentation and administrative duties as necessary.
The appointee will also: provide leadership and guidance in the area of ambulatory urologic care; work in partnership with Urology physicians to provide effective, efficient care and good customer service in the ambulatory environment; work in conjunction with Urology physicians, Hillsboro Medical Center, and OHSU leadership to provide services that further the health system’s goals and mission of teaching, research, patient care, and public service.
Operating room assistant duties
May provide operating room assistance for open and robotic surgical cases. This duty includes prompt and professional communication efforts, face-to-face customer contact skills, crisis management, use of available information technology and continuous application of process improvement methods and skills.
Outpatient responsibilities
Provide patient care in the outpatient setting and assist the attending physician with patient care. This includes pre and postop evaluations, and being available to take patient calls regarding questions; triage and assisting clinic support staff.
Inpatient responsibilities
May provide inpatient care and follow-up of assigned patients from OR to admission, and through discharge. Includes, but is not limited to: rounding on a daily basis, developing and implementing, in conjunction with faculty physicians, clinical plans of care and/or protocols for inpatients on the urology service, enhancing quality of patient services and decreasing length of inpatient stay; working actively with hospital and unit staff to rapidly develop and implement discharge plans for inpatients.
Nurse practitioner: Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Current and Active Oregon Nurse Practitioner provider license; Experience in a Urology practice preferred.
Physician Assistant: Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Current national certification. Current Oregon Physician Assistant license. Experience in a Urology practice preferred.
